I know that just depends what it is meant to cover - care, medicine...

A friend of mine got full DLA but spent it all on going out & having a good time. needed no special equipment, care etc

    Would medicine be free anyways?

One friend can't walk, uses a weel chair, had cancer etc but still manages to work full time.

I do feel (having a go at the system not any posters) that once your medicine is covered, your house in sorted, you have everything to live a 'normal' life and CAN work then you should.

Medicine is free for those on a low income.

Your last paragraph makes no sense - how does your house being sorted make you magically better?

I pay my DLA for special interpreter, paying expensive phone bills (using text relay service from typetalk as it take more longer calls on textphone) paying taxi to fetch and drop my son to school every days. Paying my hearing aids batteries at boots (as NHS batteries is no longer in my local GP)
If you have a disabled child the education authority should be paying for transport. You also mentioned free laptop and internet it's over.
    *SIGH*

they take fruit juice (not cheap) to drink

Fruit juice is not very good for teeth and neither is it thirst quenching. Water is a better option and cheaper too.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

  • I just read on MoneySavingExpert.com about the changes in tax credits that the chancellor didn't mention that are going to come in to play for those earning £25k and over. I am a single parent with 2 young kids just under that threshold by £200. If I am lucky enough to get my bonus which isn't much more than £1500 it obviously pushes me over.

Can anyone tell me if it is just the basic family element that is going to drop over the next few years to just £549 approx or is that the total amount of what I might expect to get - ie that will include the child elements too? I can't get any help from my ex because he is unemployed so this is causing a great deal of worry and stress, what with a mortgage and bills to pay. I can imagine there are many people out there in a similar situation feeling the same way as me. Thanks in anticipation
