Hi everyone! was just wondering if anyone had any idea how to re-create those cereal bars that my 2 boys seem to love, like Coco Pops bars and Cheerios bars? they seem to have a white chocolate topping on them and are basically cereal stuck together with something!?
Also, how long would they stay fresh? and where would I store them!? Thanks in advance.;)Sept. grocery challenge = £500 (221.60 so far!;))0 -
I have made these ones, and they were yummy, and easy to make. Didn't keep very well though, the cheerios went soft quite quickly, so I would suggest maybe halving the recipe for a start as it makes quite a lot!
I didn't have any dried peaches, so I used dried apricots, but I bet raisins would be nice too.0 -
What about Flapjacks? Really easy, freeze well, taste divine. Add anything you like to the basic recipe: chocolate chips/chunks, raisins, berries, nuts ...
75g butter/marge
75g sugar
75g golden syrup
200g cheap porridge oats
Melt marge, sugar and syrup in a saucepan over a low heat. Add any extras (eg. 50g or 2oz of chocolate or raisins), press mixture with a fork onto a greased baking tray (baking parchment is best of all) and bake at 180° (Gas Mark 4) for 25 or so mins until golden brown. Mark into squares/fingers while hot, but allow to cool before cutting.0 -
I use the following Muesli Bar recipe but does have chocolate on it, albeit cooking chocolate:
Ingredients: 1 oz cooking chocolate
2.25 oz hard margarine (better than soft as it sets better)
1.5 tblspns Syrup
4 oz to 5 oz Muesli
Topping: Approx 2 oz of cooking chocolate (this can be varied according to how thick you want the topping!)
Method:
Melt the chocolate, hard margarine and syrup together in a bowl for about 1 min in microwave or any other preferred method. Stir well and add the muesli until a firm consistency (hence the reason for saying between 4 - 5 oz).
Grease a rectangle dish about 6" x 4" and tip the muesli mixture into the dish and firm down with the back of a spoon. Leave to set in the fridge.
Melt the remaining chocolate and pour over the set muesli mixture and return to fridge. Cut into fingers or about 1" wide or desired size. Will make about 6 slices and is delicious.0 -
You could also try to replace the sugar with Sucralose (Splenda), but not sure as recipe asks for demerara. I'd give it a go, just follow replacement instructions on splenda pack.
Also some good recipes here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=46777&page=2
Thanks.

Just wondered does anyone have or know of a recipe for homemade cereal bars? I do like these sometimes for my breakfast but they can be expensive.
Thankyou

Hi Jolene,
There are some recipes and links on this thread that should help:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep all the suggestions together.
