My kids, when we are late, love the strawberry nutrigrain bars but they are expensive so I rarely buy them.
Has anybody tried to recreate these or found a recipe please?

OOh... I love nutrigrain bars.., but like you think that they are very expensive... I wait with bated breath to hear if anyone has a recipe for this.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0

Frugal, i really like nutrigrain bars, especially the cherry flavoured ones and would be really pleased if someone can come up with a recipe. I used to get the boxes of them when they were on offer, they were ideal for the kids when we were all in a rush to get out the door to do the school run. Now the kids are older, but i would still enjoy them and i could give them to DD has a healthy snack to take to uni each day...but i ain't buying them, so shall watch this thread in anticipation!Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

HI Frugal
I can't find a specific nutrigrain thread, but you may find some inspiration in cereal bars - I'll merge this later
thanks

Just done a bit of a search on Google and came across this:By: BaylorMom on 7/22/2003 11:12:49 AMMight give this a try sometime
Here is our favorite! It is very similar to nutri-grain bars. They also freeze well. I just make them and what we don't eat we freeze for another time! I have always doubled the recipe. I buy a 32 oz. jar of preserves so this makes it easy. I use my Pampered Chef Bar pan to make the double batch in (don't know the size, but that should give you an idea of the size, I hope.) This pan works well, but it always goes over a little and some gets in the bottom of the oven!! So, if you don't like that you might want to use a bigger pan. I don't mind b/c it is not a lot.
Fruit and Grain Bars
1 Cup Butter or Margarine -- Softened
1 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
1 1/2 Cups Oats
16 Ounces Strawberry Preserves -- * See Note
1 Teaspoon Almond Extract
Cream margarine and sugar. Add dry ingredients. Mix well. Add almond extract. Press half of crumb mixture into greased 9 x 13 pan. Spread with preserves. (*Use Strawberry, raspberry, peach or other favorite).
Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Bake at 350* for 20-25 min. Cool and cut into bars.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Sound fab! I will try these on Monday with the children - If they are helping to make them, they are more likely to accept them as a substitute
I have found that with all my cooking recently. Even fussy DD1 is more likely to eat if she has helped0 -
I love nutrigrain bars, so thanks frugal for posting this thread and katholicos for finding that recipe. Mind you, I had a look at the Pampered Chef site and saw they have a UK site. Not cheap but lots of nice stuff on there!0
