i have a WW recipe for some at home but it's basically a bit of butter, sugar and honey in a pan, melted (doesn't sound low fat so far lol but you cut them small so it's quantity too) add handful raisins and 7oz rolled oats and 1 tsp mixed spice. Mix all together then flatten out into a square tin and bake for 20 mins or so, they will be soft when done out of the oven but will crisp up when cool.
Sorry I don't have measurements, I'm a guess and chick it in gal.

If anyone has a recipe that would appeal to kids...(.ie not with raisins in my house!) I would really appreciate it.

(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

    Hi Laura,

These are favourites with my lot and they freeze well although they'll keep for up to a week in an airtight container.

    Cereal/snack bars

    5 oz butter
    3 oz brown sugar
    1tablespoon golden syrup

    7 oz porridge oats
½ oz mixed seeds (I use pumpkin, sunflower, sesame and linseed)
    ½ oz dessicated coconut
    ½ oz chopped nuts
small handful raisins or other dried fruit

Melt butter, sugar and syrup in a saucepan until disolved.
Add dry ingredients into the syrup mix and stir until well coated.
Press into a well greased baking tin.
Cook at 180 degrees for around 20 minutes until lightly golden. Keep a close eye as they can burn easily.
Remove from the oven and mark slices with a knife but leave in the tin until completely cold or they’ll fall to bits when you try to get them out.

I think you could probably substitute honey and/or molasses for the golden syrup for a slightly heathier option and you can mix and match with the nuts/fruit adding in or leaving out anything you don't like.

There are lots more recipes on these threads that may help:

I'll add your thread to the first link later to keep the suggestions together.

This sounds great any idea how long they last for once baked and best way to store them? :)

    Hello :)

My favourites are these honey and peanut butter booster bars from River Cottage (again, glorified flapjacks with seeds and dried fruit and crunchy peanut butter and honey and oats).

I slice them into bars, wrap them individually in cling film and pop them in the freezer. Then every night I take one out and it's defrosted in time for brekkie in the morning and is easy to grab, just like a regular breakfast bar. (unless I'm eating them fresh that week then don't bother freezing).

    Hope that helps :)

I keep them in a tupperware box - they keep good for around a week but to be honest, they get devoured in my house! Great recipe :D

    In a processor I put

    250g Oats
125g butter (no need to melt)
    125g brown sugar
    2-3 tsps honey.

I then chuck in any dried fruit and nuts I have.

Give it a whizz and then press ino a pan and cook on 200*c for about 20 minutes or until Golden Brown.
