    Hi

I could do with some help and or inspiration please.

I’ve started a new job that I love and the first pay in 4 months is coming in, however this week it is going straight back out again leaving us with no grocery budget after I’ve bought the weekly train ticket to work.

I can create lunches with pasta and we have frozen bread for sandwiches and filing we have cheese, tinned tuna etc so all good my problem is, I normally take a cereal bar of some sort, basically what ever is on offer, and it keeps the afternoon sugar low at bay.:o

I have porridge oats I could turn into bars of some sort, I have the usual cake making stock so just wondered if anyone knew of good breakfast bar recipes please, I’ve never made them before so something reasonably easy would be great.

I've never hard of a "breakfast bar" recipe and I'm not altogether sure what one is. Are they some sort of biscuit? I think what you are asking for is a recipe for flapjacks.

This thread about breakfast bars may help. Oats is good, but too much sugar can cause a sugar dip before you get home, so keep the sugar as low as possible.

I haven't tried the Nigella bars (cos I thought the same as you!) but with the Good Food ones you can experiment a lot with cutting down the sugar, using honey, adding different dried fruits etc. If you read the comments there's lots of things that people have tried and some have been successful in reducing the sugar by a half I think.

Of course I was using it by using the heat from the cupcakes I'd just made too for the weekend ho hum :-)

PK ( well ,fancy meeting you here !) ;) I too used to crash and burn in the afternoon so to keep my glycaemic level well ...err level . I take 30g of mixed nuts and raisins , a sharp as Harib* granny smith apple and a packet of crisps .Its cheap too ! Boring I know , but as you know I am an early bird but I don't crash and burn so much . Sugar and white flour based products will give you a hit then a huge drop xx

    Hi Chicken,

I have to admit having seen what goes into them now I do wonder about what to have for the better as I would like to at least not add to the weight!:)

I will give dried fruit and seeds a chance, will have to look into where to get them at a decent price?
