    And????? And??? How were they?????:D

I've just eaten the last of a batch I just took out of the freezer. Basic recipe plus seeds and hazelnuts. I have to say they are F-I-L-L-I-N-G. I always wolf them down greedily and then think, oops, look like we overdid it on the flapjacks again...

  • Can I just ask, does anyone know if I were to make twinks hobnobs on a baking sheet so I can cut them into bars, how long I would need to cook them for? (Yes, I am a cooking idiot!!)

    TIA!
  • did someone mention the other day about making some just by mashing tinned apricots into porridge oats ? or did I dream it ?
  • After some culinary guidance...

DH takes cereal bars to work, but they are bloomin' expensive for what they are!

Just wondering if anyone has a recipe for a cheap, healthy alternative? No flapjacks please as trying to LOSE weight!

Or alternatively, a suggestion for something else he could take to work? He's a grazer! I'm going to get in some raisins, but anything else quick and easy we could bung in his bag?

  • If you are talking about cereal bars like Jordan's Crunchy etc. then I would call them flapjacks. I'm not sure how they would be any less fattening than the home-made variety! Have you looked at the ingredients list?

If you are making a "bar" of anything you need something to glue it together, whch is usually sugar of some kind (sometimes fructose or glucose, but they're still sugar).

You could give him a small plastic pot of mixed dried fruit and nuts.

You can buy packets of dried banana chips but they aren't cheap either, I don't think, and they can be a bit tasteless.

Dried apricots - if possible get the unsulphured brown ones, not the orange ones. They are sweet-sour, usually juicy, and quite filling.

How about prunes? We have a thing against them in the UK but have you eaten one lately? They are only dried plums.

I'm guessing he'd prefer sweet-tasting to savory, so carrot sticks etc. are probably out! :D

Try this, once you have the basics you can vary the ingredients.

What do you consider the difference  It's just that I';ve just made a batch of what are descibed in the recipe as "cereal bars" but are very similar to "flapjack" ;)

There's a whole thread of cereal bar recipes here; I'll merge this later.
