I've recently made granola with some spare porridge oats and dried fruit - it's dead easy and yummy with some natural yoghurt for breakfast.

Basic flapjack recipe is 4oz each of butter and sugar, 1 tablespoon of golden syrup - melt in a saucepan and then stir in about 6oz of oats. You can usually gauge it by how stiff the mixture is. My recipe calls for 5oz oats but even when I use double quantities (a whole packet of butter, 8oz sugar, 2 tblsps golden syrup and 10oz oats) I find that I have to add more oats. It depends what else you put in it.

To this you can add whatever you like! I often find it needs more oats if you don't add much else. I usually add mixed seeds - not fond of dried fruit in flapjacks - but you can also add nuts or even chocolate chips.

Bake in a lowish oven - gas 3 or 4 - until golden brown - about half an hour. Cut into squares while still hot and leave to cool in the tin.
  • Thankyou , just been to lidls to get some butter for them , will have a breather then start baking !!

  • I can answer that one, you can do without or use baking powder. I like them with baking powder, they are a bit crunchier, but mix it into the dried flour as it is a nightmare to miw proberly into the syruo/butter concoction. Be warned though. Highly addictive. LOL

For flapjacks I use this Microwave Flapjack Recipe it's quick and easy and I chuck in whatever other stuff I have. I usually do it with "posh cereals" oats, like Jordans but I've done it with cheap ones too.

That hobnob recipe makes loads of them but they freeze too - just layer them with paper or foil between so they don't stick ;)

In fact I usually hide half of them in the freezer as soon as I've cooked them otherwise OH and the kids would eat them all in 10 minutes :D
