Yes I can see how they would work out expensive.
I was thinking maybe of some you could make with basics porridge oats and basics dried fruit etc, I'm sure there is a recipe but it will contain lots of butter no doubt!Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0 -
the hobnob mix can be used as a traybake and cut into bars, you can add seeds, nuts or dried fruits bake 170o for 20 mins havent tried it myself but another poster has done it0

I would welcome Old Stylers' advice on whether or not I can omit the egg whites in the recipe for muesli bars to be found in the following blog link
http://simple-living-simple-cooking.blogspot.com/
I was wondering what job the egg whites did - presumably binding the mixture together - but do you think I could I just rely on the honey to do this? I have egg whites but just don't fancy them in a muesli bar
Thanks in advance

I imagine that the egg whiles will cook and hold the bar together, so not sure you could leave it out. We have an existing thread - muesli bar recipes. Anything there take your fancy?
I'll add this thread to that one later to keep ideas together.

yummm! That thread is far too interesting! In fact I've just seen the same recipe in a link on that thread....
Thank you

When egg whites are cooked they have little flavour and in recipes like this are usually used to bind the other ingredients together. Muesili bars can be tricky to cook as they can crumble and break up easily, if I was you I'd go with the recipe as it is.

Hey all
I have some cereal, Country Crisp, to be precise which I'm not going to eat, so I had a thought about using it to make cereal bar type things. So I have golden syrup, butter, sugar etc...should I just make a flapjack type recipe but use the cereal instead on oats?
Any advice or thoughts would be great!Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!
