    Probably because Facebook is down.

This page took about 30 seconds to load.

Maybe some coding is required to stop trying to load the Facebook content if it hasn't done it within three seconds.
I am not even on facebook lol.
  • Hey All,

Last night Facebook had a major service outage, unfortunately this had a knock on effect of the performance of our site. Over the coming weeks I will be discussing with our devs whether we can adjust the code to stop this in the future.

It appears that full service has resumed on Facebook so the load times of threads should be substantially improved.

    Thanks

    Neil

Doesn't matter - MSE still loads some code from Facebooks servers :)

What puzzles me is that Facebook is providing me no content - it is doing nothing for me. So should I not just have a static link like every other static link, which only seeks out the server when the user selects it?

Facebook means nothing to me, so why should my pages be stuck loading content from there? It seems to me that this is being whizzy for the sake of it at the expense of the user experience.

  • I agree. It's always happening. It is so annoying it's unreal.

To be honest I'm surprised a site like this would allow to be slowed down so much by such a pointless gimmick.

As mentioned use firefox and a plugin called noscript, It asks you what sites you want to allow & what scripts to run on a page.

Facebook is blocked, Zynga one of the creators of farmville are being sued in the US i think. Passing on details of facebook users
without permission. Not the only ones. They dont do all that stuff for free, To think they dont sell your details on is naive.
