My Pc Performance

Options
I bought the following Dell precision M4400 laptop for £450 about a year ago looking for a really quick PC. I put the emphasis on speed and performance, not graphics or hard drive space.

I am running Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit and AVG internet security

With:
Intel Core2 Duo CPU T9600 @2.8GHz
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700M

I have been quite disappointed by the performance so far, if I load too many applications 4 or 5 my pc can barely handle it. Also it takes ages to load windows media player and many other problems. It is bearable but I am quite picky with my PC perfromance and want to get the best out of it. It was originally supplied with a 32 bit Windows Vista OS so I downloaded a 64 bit windows 7 in order to try and make use of the 4GB capability. I regularly run defragmenter and ccleaner etc and have removed any unecessary programs from startup. I would like to try and remove some of the processes that continually run but I am not sure which ones can be removed or how to check. I currently have 56 processes running with about 55% CPU usage and 70% memory usage which seems far too much.

Could anybody suggest any improvements to get it running more smoothly? Any help is much appreciated.

If you had managed to delete C:\program files x86, you would be looking for your re-install disks or paying someone money to sort it for you.

STOP RIGHT NOW - you don't know what you doing

You need some help and friendly advice.

If no one does not jump in first to help you, I'll find you after the match, buy pleeeeeese STOP what you are doing for now.

The simplest thing to check with laptops that are quite highly spec'ed is that the fan vents aren't blocked with fluff ..

It would be worth checking that nothing is blocked on the underside of the laptop.

Sorry I meant I was trying to delete the other programme file folder as all programs download to my 'program file x86' folder. I assume this is the 64 bit OS.

But you are right I dont know what I am doing really, I just like to clear my PC of rubbish.

Interesting point about the fan, I didn't realise that could make a difference. I think the fan is not good enough for the PC. It gets so hot underneath, I mean like scorching hot to the point that you cant touch it, it has switched off before from overheating. It doesn't appear to be blocked but I don't know what I can do about it.

Cheers Richie, I am also scouting a few of the brazilian players for Strachans red and white army!! :T

I ain't the expert here but you have one trojan, and imao AVG and AdAware are not stopping, plus I notice you are using Limewire , I have seen a few probs with that to say the least. But wait for someone like Browntoa/Alienrik to pick up on the thread too they know a fair bit about malware problems. I would suggest though ditching AVG/ADAware for something like Avast/MSE/Avira and use Malwarebytes weekly after you are clear for a month or so and then monthly. I have also changed my dislike for spybot too in the last 3 months it is not as bad as it was about 3 years ago.

Microsoft Security Essentials and Avira both free Antivirus scanners, seem on balance on this forum much better than AVG.

    crtl alt del

task manager / performance tab - what % is the CPU ?
task manager / processes tab - what's hogging the CPU ?

    - loads of rubbish in your Hijack this log, but we will do this then msconfig, then we will alienRIK-it !
