I've just applied for job in Brum - I'm about 45 mins away by train, so £9 a day return, for yhr amazing sum of £13000, about 250 a week!!
I'm in work earning a tad more and 5 mins walk away but this other job is so much better and they will put me through my Ma.

If you get given a print out of a job from a jobcentre adviser you HAVE to apply for it. No if's no buts you have to apply.
Its great to see JC staff doing their jobs for once, when I was signing on they didnt question my job seeking activities one bit.
Most of the time when I signed on they didn't even speak just pointed to the sheet to sign and I was out of there. One guy did look for jobs fr me but they never then asked if I'd applied. One job they got me to apply for they didn't chase up.0 -
though min wage was £5.80 when did it go up?0

I was given 2 jobs to apply for, one in the town where I live, the other 10 miles away.
The one nearest to me was more money and less expense for me to get to, so I only applied for that one (just common sense to me)
When asked at the Jobcentre on my next signing day, I explained that I would have been out of pocket with all the travelling expenses, so didn't apply for the out of town job.
I am currently looking into appealing the decision.
It seems to me that the Decision Makers are stopping peoples benefit for the slightest excuse. It doesn't matter to them if the decision was right or wrong they just do it anyway.
If you appeal and the decision gets overturned, so what?
Its all about saving money for the Government, and they don't care if people are suffering.
......
Ok, lets get back to the main point.
This is basically the decision I was faced with
Ive got 2 jobs here...one's at £300 but you have to travel, costing you over £33 per week.
The other job is £400 per week and is on your doorstep.
which one do you apply for........two guesses.
as £300-£33 is actually greater then JSA; then both.
There is no question.
However.........
What you have essentially done is you haven't played the game. The jobs that the JSA people give you are not always real jobs in the first place, they are plants to check that you are applying for the jobs that they give you.
So, you failed the test and are now paying the price.0 -
Minimum wage minus £32 travel expenses is better off than £65 a week, which ever way you look at it. Even if by some weird reason it didn't work out that way, the JC will do an expenses/bills etc vs wage print out to work out exactly what's the least you can earn for it to be worth it. Thus, if the job you didn't apply for is lower than that they won't suspend you. Don't forget if you're a low earner you maybe entitled to Tax Credits as well.
;) Better to say nothing and look a fool than to speak and remove all doubt

Would you work for £5.85 an hour, less expenses?
And be worse off than you are now?
yes yes and yes without question and i do whislt caring for four kids and taking them to school....tbh my life may be hectic but i fel more worthwhile and i dont feel the dreaded humilation of signing on0 -
I am sorry Frank but i have to agree with the other posters on this topic 10 miles is not far to travel at all and with £300 a week is a manageable amount i have made it quite clear to the jobcentre that i am looking for work in the nearest city to myself (i live in a little town) so the city is 30 miles away approx which would be £4.60 a day return ticket and 1 hour and 15 mins on the bus just to get into the centre then i would probably require another bus to a work place which would be another £2.80 for a return bus ticket and i am looking for jobs of national minimum wage so i am sorry to say that i quite agree that if you were given that job to apply for that you should have done so.
Finding a job in the current climate is a blessing so why not broaden your mind and your boundaries and you never know it may just happen!
I am trying everything i can to find work including asking to go on government funded schemes to help you imporve your cv etc and also looking into voluntary work so i can feel like i am actually putting something back into society when i feel like i am taking so much away from it.
I hate being on JSA do you realise how soul destroying it is when you have a child who asks why we need to go to the jobcentre during the holidays - i had that experience this week and i never want to experience it ever again, i want to provide and i want my feeling of belonging back again.
I am not the stereotype young mum on benefits - trust me i dont wanna be, thats why i apply for every job i can i am glad i will be 25 soon so that i can start applying for more jobs which previously would have been not enough money to support myself - i will then qualify for working tax credits to allow me to do this. Roll on August 28th!!!!!
Sorry for the rant but i dont want the association between me and someone who considers 10 miles as "too far".0 -

Do you post without reading or what?
I'm so glad that you are no longer able to sponge off the rest of us. It gives me an inner warmth.:D:T:D0 -

Just a quick point- if you have a child you can get WTC even if you are under 250 -
Hey thanks for the advice yeah i would be eligable for that but basically i went through a really tough time a good few years ago and my ex husband has my son for more time than i do (even though it is seen as joint custody) so its only fair that he claims them for my son really.
Thanks for the advice though xx0
