JSA cancelled? Help!!!

Hi there

I seriously need help my partner and i are both (unfortunately) in receipt of JSA for which i am the claimant for this.

I was due an appointment with my advisor which i missed due to them changing the appointment date then sending out a letter to clarify this with the wrong date on it - so i attended a meeting to put forward my reasons for missing the appointment which i genuinely have no reason to want to miss i have even asked her to put me on local training programmes to help me with my cv etc.

These reasons apparently were not good enough for their "decision makers" who have now cut us both off - my question is i am able to claim again what is the system with this, some people have told me that they should have just sent me out a new form to start claiming again as some sort of pathetic punishment. But this letter makes it seem like now i am entitled to nothing.

I dont want anyone let alone the people who are meant to be helping me (the jobcentre) thinking that i am some low life scrounger which i can assure you i am not and never intended to be in the position of claiming benefits - but however with living with partner and having split custody of my son i cant not have an income.

Any advice is greatly received - i am due to sign monday morning but i just want to know what to expect so i dont get myself worked up about it, also my advisor is constantly complaining of "cant be assed being in work am sooo hung over" to be honest feel like slapping him and telling him to be happy with what he has - talk about rubbing salt into wounds!

Thanks
xx

If they sent you a letter telling you to come in for an appointment on a certain time and date, then providing you did turnup at the jobcentre on that date and at that time,
then there is nothing at all that they can justify doing against you!

If the date and time on the letter was incorrectly printed by them thats nothing to do with you, its their own fault and the jobcentre staff should be fired if anything for failing to turn-up to your appointment on that date!

As long as you have that letter and can prove that you did turnup on the date and time printed on the letter you have a rock solid defence.

I would take a few photocopies of the origianl letter they sent you with the appointment date and either take it in to them or ring them and ask if you can appeal against there decision as you clearly have evidence that it is not your fault.

If you have a problem with your advisor you can write to the job ccentre manager a request a different advisor and state your reasons as to why.

In the meantime claim JSA hardship by contacting the Jobcentre on Monday morning.

no real advice but just wanted to say how out of order i think they are for cutting your benefits. i had a near miss with it when i used to claim income support, they sent me a letter out with a saturday appointment for my 6 monthly review. thankfully i went to put it in my diary and realised the error.
demand to see a manager, taking a copy of the letter with you. hopefully you can prove that you went to the jc on the date and time of the letter. theres nothin really they can do if its their fault, they'll have to reinstate your benefits.
maybe contact the cab and see if they can advise anything, maybe even see about claiming back money youve lost due to their incompetence.
    good luck

Assuming a wrong date really was given then they shouldnt have stopped the benefit. You obviously will have retained the letter and can produce it for them to support your story..

If they have ended your claim then you will need to make a rapid reclaim to get your benefit reinstated.

If they sanctioned your claim then if you have a child (I think you need to be getting the CB) you could apply for hardship and expect to receive something.

    Hi there

Thank you for all of your replies i will definately look into all of this, i still have the letter which states the wrong date - they have told me now that they have sanctioned my money from the 22nd until the 28th so this means i wont get paid for this period but everything should carry on as normal, apparently anyway.

Not happy however as it is their problem and now i get a letter from the council advising that i have to cancel my claim as i may be committing benefit fraud just because they cant word a letter appropriately.

Had a training course which i asked to be put on through the jobcentre just to help me with my cv - the advisor who had given me an invalid appointment then sent out the letter with the wrong date on it had told me that it was over 2 mornings so in the afternoon i would be free to go yet again WRONG!!! I had made an appointment but luckily the lady was very nice and understanding and let me go anyway - think i need to change my advisor she is not doing me any favours and doesn't seem to be very capable of advising anybody!!

    Thanks again
    xx

I've just got a letter saying my JSA has been suspended until November (21 weeks) for not applying for a certain job.

I was given 2 jobs to apply for, one in the town where I live, the other 10 miles away.

The one nearest to me was more money and less expense for me to get to, so I only applied for that one (just common sense to me)

When asked at the Jobcentre on my next signing day, I explained that I would have been out of pocket with all the travelling expenses, so didn't apply for the out of town job.

I am currently looking into appealing the decision.

It seems to me that the Decision Makers are stopping peoples benefit for the slightest excuse. It doesn't matter to them if the decision was right or wrong they just do it anyway.
If you appeal and the decision gets overturned, so what?

Its all about saving money for the Government, and they don't care if people are suffering.

This is great news. I hope they throw the appeal out whilst laughing to your face. You refused to apply for a vacancy. Workshy chancer.
