It seems to be the commonest recipe for fabcon on all the websites that I've checked. Usually 1 cup bicarb of soda, 1 cup of vinegar, 1 cup (or two) water.

Took me flippin ages to find bicarb of soda, too, I'll be spitting feathers if it's not any good!
    ;-)

AHA! When you said "soda" I assumed you were talking about washing soda/soda crystals, not bicarb. Small quantities of bicarb can be found with the baking gubbins on the supermarket shelves. Larger quantities can usually be sourced from Asian supermarkets or similar.

To the enquiry about cleaning glass and mirrors with vinegar and newspaper: I usually dilute the vinegar in equal quantities of water. Just experiment and find what works for you.

Thanks, do I soak the newspaper and then smear that on the window please?

No. Either use a spray bottle to spray on water/ vinegar or put some in a bowl or bucket and use a cloth to wipe over windows then buff up with scrunched up newspaper.

If you normally put it on your chips - then I'd say yes :)

I use cheap brown vinegar instead of fabric conditioner. About the same amount of vinegar as you'd use of fabric c.

The added benefit is that it cleans the machine every single wash, unlike f.c. which tends to clog them up with gunk that eventually gets smelly.

I need to get some sweaty stains out of dd's school shirts, and having read through the laundry threads, a soak in some water with vinegar is on the cards.
The only problem I have is that I only have brown vinegar and not white...can anyone advise if this would do the job without staining?
    Thanks
