  • Hi,

I loved this thread, did a little experiment with my malt vinegar and now have shiny chrome all around my kitchen - brilliant (literally!)

I went looking to get a large bottle today and Tesco's had the distilled vinegar on special offer at 44p for 568mls which is loads cheaper than the malted one. Just in case anyone else needs to stock up!

I'm going to try it in the clothes wash next. x

The brown stuff is sold in Lidl and Aldi at 27 or 29 pence for a pint. It's the cheapest I've found

Costco do 5 litre containers if you know anyone who has membership. Sorry I can't remember the price I paid it was quite a long time ago:D

Asda is the cheapest for 500mil of brown malt vinegar that I've been able to find.

And after all the cleaning uses it has I found one that I'd completely forgotten...

    It's great on chips! :D

    Edit: 13 pence for 500 mil :)

Since trying out Vinegar for washing our clothes I haven't looked back. Both me and my boyfriend started to itch in our clothes and bedding a few weeks back and I thought I would try using vinegar jut instead of conditioner at first. Although my clothes were softer, they weren't any less itchy so I did away with the washing powder as well. Now I was only in vinegar (clothes only - obviously) and wouldn't go back. Our clothes are softer, are keeping their colour and are easier to iron. (They are also clean - forgot to mention)!

I have been using white vinegar for fear of staining, but I've trusted you once (even though my boyfriend thought I was mad) so I'll trust you again. Malt vinegar here I come!

You actually use vinegar to wash the laundry? How much do you use please per cycle?

It's used in place of the fabric conditioner, and usually about the same amount of vinegar instead of f.c.

It helps clear residual soap from the clothes so they dry less hard and scratchy.

Cheap brown malt works fine. After the last four years I think I'd have noticed if all my clothes turned brown :)

Edit: you can also re-use tumble drier sheet thingies (or use a substitue) by dotting a drop or two of essential oil on them. Lavender, or vanilla, for example.

    HTH :)
