Look, just because we have all our offshore oil wells outside Scotland doesnt mean everyone puts their oil rigs in a place no one cares about.

The Americans are gutted about the Gulf spill, and so they should be.

I watched some of the testimony when I got home from work last night, and I thought it was disgusting the way the CEO was hounded by the committee.

Yes BP made mistakes and yes they used to have a shocking safety culture, but he was right not to answer the leading questions and to refuse to be drawn into speculation on matters about which he had no personal knowledge.

Did they want him just to make up answers to satisfy them?

Those guys on the hill looked like such hypocrites I nearly died laughing when that congressman held up a picture of a bird covered in oil - not that I don't feel sorry for the bird - but have they seen any pictures of Bhopal or what the American oil companies have done in the Nigerian Delta!?

Anyway, Petrochina is sniffing around BP now. They will soon own the yanks lock stock and barrel.... Way to go Obama! How's that for unintented consequences - a company 40% owned by the US ending up in the ends of the Chinese icon_rolleyes.gif

Uhm, as someone living in Scotland I can assure you that I - and a great deal many others - would care of something like this happened.

You forget that it's not just the UK that has an interest there; pretty much every country that borders onto the North Sea would be affected.

the americans aren't being anti-british. they are being anti-bp. it's coincidental that bp is british. the british are being ridiculously pro-british in trying to defend them.

americans have a big financial interest in bp too. i think they are aware of that. but the environmental impact outweighs that.

if the oil was washing up on cornwall do you think we'd all be trying to come to bps defense?

You obviously are very young or have a short memory WE have had this happen to us by American oil companies and I do not recall that we kept saying American, American, American all the time. the company is known as BP. the Americans keep saying British as this is now a political weapon to detract the American people by blaming another country. To compare this to 911 as they have done is just ludicrous.
