"President Obama said to the prime minister that his unequivocal view was that BP was a multinational global company and that frustrations about the oil spill had nothing to do with national identity.
"The prime minister stressed the economic importance of BP to the UK, US and other countries. The president made clear that he had no interest in undermining BP's value."
In a statement on the phone conversation, the White House said: "The President and the Prime Minister discussed the impact of the tragic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, reiterating that BP must do all it can to respond effectively to the situation."
He may be saying this to our Prime Minister but this is not what he saying to the American people.Everyone knows that his popularity is waning in his own country and in my opinion this is being exploited for political purposes.0 -
Wrong!
The company became BP in the 1980s
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BP
You can call BP British Petroleum or Becky's pssuy if you like. The name of the company is BP regardless.
okay but it was their name. and we all use wrong names sometimes. i think obama called it british petroleum once. and that is being made a massive thing considering i've called it that myself and didn't realise there had been an official name change either.
it took a while to start calling marathon snickers too....and i think lady di was known as lady di when no longer strictly true.
btw is bt still short for british telecom or is it just bt?Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

Do you include the War of Independence in that?
Or the Mexican-American War (resulted in California amongst other things)
Or the Spanish-American War
Or the various other wars of westward conquest eg Black Hawk War, Seminole War, Utah War.

The British fought the War of Independence against France and the US. The Americans can hardly claim to have won it on their own.0

PwndFrom the outbreak of armed rebellion in 1775, many in France sympathized with the colonists. Young, idealistic French officers like the Marquis de Lafayette volunteered their services and in many cases their personal wealth to help equip, train and lead the fledgling Continental army. The French government hoped to redress the balance of power that resulted from the French humiliation in the Seven Years Wars, which gave considerable economic and military advantages to Britain. While maintaining formal neutrality, France assisted in supplying arms, uniforms and other military supplies to the American colonists

The Bozo's are now boycotting and vandalizing BP gas stations in the US, the thing is BP don't own any of them, in fact they don't even have to source BP gas, BP sold a few years ago :eek:Good Day New York spoke with a station owner on Kent Avenue in Brooklyn. He said the anger by the vandals is misplaced. The vandalized BP gas stations are not owned by the international oil giant. They are franchises who are customers of BP.

Not very sincere though ? I don't think Mr Obama does get the British.
I have always been an Obama fan but nothing about him looks sincere at the moment.Obviously he is a hypocrite (thinking about Bhopal & Nigherian Delta) - but he just looks like everything he says is more about votes and PR than anything meaningful.
The American's don't really have that many "friends" - I think they have lost their last true friend.0 -
