  • Hi

We are heading to Europe soon and are looking for travel insurance that will cover mobile phones without having to pay an additional premium. these extra premium's are often as much as the insurance it self!

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Many Thanks
    Loch
  • I hope I'm posting this in the right place. No doubt someone will give me a b********g if I haven't.

I tried the MSE guide, 'Cheap travel insurance for over-65s' for my wife (59) and me (68) for a trip to Italy. I linked to the MSE special, Holidaysafe. After an agonising hour or so answering all questions truthfully, we were both declined. Neither of us has a serious or life-threatening illness. Can older people get insurance without the questions?

Try LV, we're with them & have pre existing medical conditions that they cover for up to 90 days a trip to Europe.

Try using Saga. You can answer the pre-existing questions on their website and get a quote.
I previously used Columbus Direct (online), but their price went up quite a bit this year because i am now over 65. That's why I went to Saga who seem more competitive now I am older.

Have you ever needed to test their claims dept? Just out of interest as I need a new policy soon.

I haven't used LV for travel insurance but, for what it's worth, their home insurance claims department is very helpful and efficient, and they always score well as a company in Which? surveys on insurance.

I don't know if anyone has said this before, but - Make sure you use a travel insurance company based in the uk!

I once used one whom were based in Gibraltar but underwritten by a uk based underwriter. When I had a complaint about being missold I didn't have a leg to stand on as they weren't regulated by the FCA so I couldn't take them to FOS.

    Read the small print.

No, thank God, but we've rung them & they've been helpful. This will be the 3rd year we've insured with them. Each time we've a googled for a better deal &, despite the premium increasing, it's still been well under others we've looked at.

Just completed online application, and although policy for existing conditions, the quote comes out as not covered for them, nor anything else that occurs that could be attributed.

What's the point of that, when seeking insurance for existing medical issues.

I guess it must depend on what medical issues you have. Both my husband & I take meds for controlling high blood pressure, I also take meds for trigeminal neuralgia in my face, he takes meds for controlling cholesterol & he also has an abdominal aortic aneurysm. We are covered for it all.
