Just completed online application, and although policy for existing conditions, the quote comes out as not covered for them, nor anything else that occurs that could be attributed.

What's the point of that, when seeking insurance for existing medical issues.
So did they say that they wouldn't cover you for any pre existing conditions because you had a particular 'problem' condition or just that they wouldn't cover for a specific condition?

Can you imagine how high the premium would be to cover you for something that is very likely to occur?
So you can pay super high premiums or choose to pay a normal premium and not be covered for existing conditions.
How can they know when something that you already suffer from will reoccur?

It's like having a broken finger and then expecting them to cover for the broken finger...retrospectively.
  • I just followed the medical travel link from Martins website and saved £340 on travel for a pre-existing condition

Have a look at Insure & Go. They only require you to declare conditions which fall into a group of set categories (eg. cancer, heart problems) plus any hospital referrals from the past couple of years. You can view their medical questions before filling in personal details to avoid wasting your time. Another one to look at is All Clear insurance which particularly covers for people with pre existing conditions.
  • Has anyone had any problems claiming from Coverwise or Insure and Go? I am going to Nepal in November and these 2 companies seem to be the ones ones coming up with decent prices for what I want. I'm not trekking as such, but we will be doing some day walks (over 2000m) and rafting. Also due to weather issues, there is the chance of flights being delayed both on arrival and departure, so I think I should get a policy that covers missed departures and travel delays.

I've looked at reviews, but most of them seem to be from people who've taken out cover but not needed to use it.

I have insured with Insure & Go several times and made 1 small claim (medical treatment for a vomiting bug) which was settled fairly well. I have just added a complaint about their medical questions to this section. I have never claimed for anything else.
  • Hello,

I tried to get travel insurance for a relative who is going on holiday to the Caribbean for six months. Insurers I've approached have refused to give a quote because it's over 90 days.

Any suggestions on who might cover them. They are over 70 and have pre-existing medical conditions.

    Any suggestions please?
  • Apology if covered elsewhere.
My annual travel insurance policy expires 31/10 and I've just booked a holiday for 2 weeks from 15/11.
Should I renew annual policy NOW to cover November trip, thereby effectively losing 2 months cover,
Or can I wait to 31/10 to renew an annual (or single trip) policy?

In other words, am I covered if something happens between now and 31/10 to stop me going on 15/11?

If this were the case, everyone would always have to take out a new policy whenever they booked another holiday.

Just renew on 31/10 or take out a single trip policy by then.
  • A cheaper premium may well turn out to be a false economy if you end up having great difficulties when making a claim.

I was pleased to buy travel insurance from Leisure Guard at a good price following the recommendation on this site. Unfortunately I had to cancel my holiday through illness and claim for flight and accommodation expenses. This is done via Travel Claims Services ltd, who are, in brief, a complete shambles.

They are based in Bristol but the postal address on their website, downloadable claim forms and letter headings is in Southend-on-Sea. They told me they moved a year ago but haven't got round to updating their documentation yet.

Their claim reviewers look at documents scanned in for them by their post room. If the documents have not been scanned in they ask the customer for duplicates rather than checking their own files for omissions first. In my case they asked for a replacement medical certificate because they had lost the original I sent them. Because they do not accept copies, only original documents, I have to waste my GP's time as well as my own to generate a replacement.

They clearly have no concept of "working smarter, not harder" and think nothing of wasting customers' valuable time compensating for their own mistakes. Losing personal information such as medical certificates is not just incompetent, it is negligent.

Think twice before congratulating yourself on saving a few bob, you might well regret it if you need to claim from these buffoons.
