Does anybody have experience of travel insurance for pre-existing mental health conditions. I have completed so many online quotes only to answer all the questions and then be told 'sorry we do not cover your condition' or get a very high quote. I just tried ETA and that got to the point of payment and I was not asked any medical questions and no mention of medical conditions - very weird indeed.

I have managed to find three quotes for around £50 for two weeks in Portugal but wonder if anybody else has obtained a better price.

Do you need the mental health conditions covered? You can take out insurance, but opt to exclude the conditions which should be cheaper.

ETA have a policy that they cover all PEMC provided there has been no change in medication in the previous 12 months. You could call them on their 0800 number to discuss.

I think it is unwise to take out travel insurance and not have all conditions covered. ETA do not cover bipolar.

ETA insurance referred me, via their online chat, to their medical insurance line and gave me the telephone number. I then found I was actually talking to Goodtogo not ETA any longer. I obtained a quote of £92.43 to cover Bipolar. Not very competitive, I'm afraid.

I get very annoyed with insurance websites that start as one company and then change into another without warning. This has happened to me on several occasions over the past few days, so confusing and possibly misleading.

Insurers know nothing about medical conditions and if you fill in online it is the same paperwork, you tend to go round in circles. One option could be 'not' to insure the existing medical conditions and only insure for everthing else. One reason is that if you are in the EU you are entitled to cover for existing medical conditions, much as you would be in the UK. This works for any stable condition providing your doctor says it is okay to travel. Many companies say they will provide insurance for this and that, but when you call then and spend ages telling them what the problem is they still come back with 'computer sez noh'. For 20 years it never even occurred to me that I had a conditon, let alone to declare it until my specialist asked why I didn't need a letter from him for my insurance. So I travelled cheaply and happily - wish he had never mentioned anything, for the last thing an insurance company is interested in is a letter from your specialist. Before I never felt ill, now I feel like a dead person by the time I have gone through several companies, so depressing. Anyway try Staysure. You don't have to insure medical conditions, the same with LV and you do not have to declare them either. The best one I had, as long as you are under 65 is www.travelinsuranceweb.com. :TYou have to ring and tell them ALL medical conditions and don't leave out depression or anything at all, they make no comment, they don't say no, they just log it in case you have to make an unrelated claim and keep them informed. If you are over 65 as I am then it seems to be a whole other ball game.

Not exactly. As I pointed out in post 392, anything related to any mental health problem you have had, any time in your life, is excluded from cover. No ifs or buts. Just excluded.

My Mum (age 60) is going on her annual trip to Rhodes with my Dad in August and I normally get them joint cover but my Mum is going away in September to Canada to visit relatives so thinking of getting her annual cover for both trips and my Dad separate insurance for a one off holiday as they are very unlikely to go away anywhere else abroad before next August.

My mum has has a few medical conditions (high BP, underactive thryoid) so this is pushing up the quotes but just wondering if anyone can suggest any companies that are good to go with? And if I am doing it the right way - Mum 12 months cover, dad one trip?

Thanks for any suggestions in advance :)
  • I can't seem to find anyone who will insure me for travel to Portugal due to my list of health problems. These include stroke in 2009, then breast cancer which had spread to lymph nodes in 2010. I've also been diagnosed with a brain aneurysm which is being monitored and an arteriovenous malformation in my lung. I've been offered a friends apartment in Portugal for a week but no one will insure me.

    Hi all

Off to Czech Rep for a 4 day music festival next week....

I'd like to get travel insurance, but reading some of the reviews of some of the companies, there seems to be a lot of "avoid", "will not pay out", etc type comments.

I'm getting a comprehensive list of who not to go to, but would like some recommendations of who IS a good company. No point getting insurance that would not cover me!

So any recommendations would be great.

    Cheers

    Max

im looking for annual travel european policy for myself 54yrs, my 18 yr old daughter and 23 yr old son, my son is a DJ and travels abroad a few times a year, so needs to insure some of his equipment (over £1000) - finding a policy which covers all of us is almost impossible (group policy for annual travel doesnt even appear on moneysupermarket). Thought i had found one on LV til i added two medical conditions (Eczema and Gastric Reflux) and it rocketed to over £135! Apparently we are not a 'family' but are a 'group' which is crazy as they both live with me! Any suggestions gratefully received

    thanks
