I have to say, I did think it was September they were letting us know. I seem to have the 12th and the 30th in my mind as dates for some reason.0

I don't think it was only open to us, I thought it was posted that it was listed somewhere else too.0

A simple Google got me this http://www.google.co.uk/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&=&q=free+fridge+npower&aq=f&aqi=g1&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=0

And this article makes interesting reading:Indesit Company, npower and RLtec are ready to begin a UK trial of fridges fitted with grid-balancing technology. The dynamic demand technology, developed by RLtec and Indesit research teams, helps to maintain the balance between supply and demand across the national electricity grid. From this month and through 2010, up to 3,000 UK npower customers will be supplied with Indesit Company dynamic demand fridges and fridge freezers, free of charge, in what will be world’s first residential test of the technology.
You'd have to assume that those who were contacted to switch to npower, on the back of applying, must have 99% qualified but were just shy of which supplier they were with. I hope I'm wrong.0 -
I've got an Indesit fridge that is over 35 years old.
At the time is was the only 1,400 x 600 x 600 fridge available at an affordable price.
I've had to change the light bulb a few times (Do we get a long lasting LED in a new fridge freezer?)
and some of the fitments have required modest DIY running repairs.
Unfortunately I don't quite have the headroom for this offer:mad:.0 -
You're lucky, that's when they still built them to last, these days they're made with a short life expectancy and fall apart even with moderate usage. Same with cookers and washers, sadly all designed to get consumers to keep on buying.0

Got a call from Npower yesterday asking to quote for supplying my utilities! I refused as I thought this fridge offer was open to all and not reliant on getting your gas/electric from them. Looking at the quote above this doesn't appear to be the case. Has anyone that isn't an Npower customer heard that they're getting one yet?0

Hi Folks,
Fingers crossed for you all, it appears I am the only MSE member to have received one of these Fridge/Freezers to date. I applied through this site from a post from another MSE member earlier in the year.
We count ourselves as very lucky, as our old fridge freezer was handed down and on its last legs. This machine is fantastic, we call it our cryogenic chamber, as it is very big and futuristic. The scheme is genuine, beware that the fridge/freezer is big, and needs quite a lot of room around it to not only function effeciently but also to open the doors. The doors are extremely thick and concave so hit thing when open unless there is sufficient clearance. We had to call the engineers after it had been delivered to swap over the door to open to the left.
The hinges cannot be swapped over yourself as there is a lot of wiring in the door to the little computer like console on the door. Luckily the engineer call out was free too. After about two weeks another engineer came out and connected the freezer to the internet via a device that plugs into the wall behind the freezer and communicates wirelessly with our router in the next room. The engineer was with us for about 5 mins, no wiring or drilling.
We have not heard from them since, and no phone calls. We were already with Npower by the way!
Good luck to everyone, :T:T:T365 AF Day Challenge 32/365:T:j

I won't be best pleased if I get a phonecall from them asking me to switch though, this was NOT supposed to be a marketing exercise but a genuine trial of new green technology. I'm happy with British Gas anyway ;o)2020 Wins:

Not on Npower here and neither is my brother who also applied. On British Gas and Southern Electric, never had a problem with them ever, so not going to change even for a chance of a free fridge. Kudos to any winners though, happy that the offer was at least partially genuine.0
