Probably better to just ignore or block their numbers if you are able. They will get fed up and go away eventually.
Thanks I will do that. - Just because I love this emoticon!0 -
I too am being harassed by these people, unfortunately the debt I'm being harassed over hasn't passed it's statute of limitations yet. However since the debt was taken out I had to get a new phone number, I'm not even completely sure how they got it but I gave them no permission to have my number. Unfortunately I have them *some* personal details but I never actually acknowledged the debt, as like a lot of other posters on here they used a local number which confused me. I told them I didn't want them having my number and asked them to stop calling me and it didn't seem to work. The bleated on about the loan agreement I had with Wonga allowing them to search for my number (I read my loan agreement and it contained no such clause).
The problem is I suffer from very severe insomnia and having them call me 8-9am in the morning is a real problem as it wakes me up and leaves me tired for the rest of the day. Is there any legal way I can prevent them from repeatedly calling me, or to complain about the way they obtained my phone number?0 -
Mackenzie Hall have started calling me at work - is this legal?0

It is not illegal.
You can write to them for all future communication to be in writing or to ask them to remove that phone number from their database record relating to you. Template letters here - Harassment by telephone
If they continued to ring after that then you could make a complaint about it.
Depending on how frequently they have called you/what the caller has said to anyone taking the call it may also be against the terms of the OFT debt collection guidelines (these are guidelines only not law) UPDATED OFT Guidance on Debt Collection - READ IF YOU ARE BEING HASSLED UNFAIRLYA smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
My experience with MH has been very good, I owed £1,613 on a CC debt from Lloyds.
I spent it, so I paid it all back through MH. Very helpful and always asked me before paying monthly if I could actually afford it, they never got me to pay more than I could afford.
Of course, they are a business and are there to make money, I know they bought the account for a lot less, but that's just the way it goes I'm afraid.
If you spent it, pay it back.0 -

It's good to know that after 600+ negative posts on this thread, and many others over many years, and several warning shots from the OFT about breach of OFT debt collection guidance, they are finally behaving themselves.0 -
Don't listen to this guy, probably a dca (rat) do not pay them. Never do that, they will put you on a list of 'will pay' and sell/pass that onto other dca's after they have their money. You dont owe, DCA's anything they are clowns, you can call the police on them for trespass and harassment they have to make an appointment to visit you, just bin spam dca letters.
A blast from the past. There aren't many posters still around who remember Tootsie Roll (Troll) and his inflammatory posts. It's six years since he last posted, but thanks for the reminder of his work, even if that one was pretty mild.0 -
So, what is wrong with my post? The game is up for DCA'S I send them thank you notes for buying my debts, 20 years and never paid a penny, If the original lender does not care why would you pay someone who's paid to buy the debt? You did not ask them to buy it. The damn paper boy has more legal rights than a DCA agent, I used to work for one.
I just thought it was interesting that you chose to comment on a post from 2006.
It took me back to my early days on mse.0 -
My elderly parents moved house and had a phone put in about 7 months ago. It's protected by a TrueCall Care machine which is set so no-one can get through unless they're authorised or know the code. The message gives an alternative mobile number which I answer.
This number has been given out to immediate family only - the mobile number is used as their contact number. They are ex-directory and registered with TPS.
Immediately the phone line went live they have been called by Mackenzie Hall, and the calls continue. They never try the mobile number. I have been blocking the numbers by adding them to the "Choose to Refuse" service. This will only hold 10 numbers and it's almost full.
It's obviously someone else they are after. My concern is that the TrueCall isn't foolproof (it won't work during a power cut for example) and what could happen if my parents answered the phone to MH.
Do I continue to ride it out, hoping they will eventually give up, or should I write to them using one of the templates? If I do write, I don't want to give out my parents' details (name, address etc). Could I send a letter with just the phone number on?20p Savers Club #1020 -
I would continue to ignore. If they start writing, then respond.
If you write to them now, they may just use that as a green light to harass your parents.0
