I have lived and worked overseas for over 7 years now. Early this morning (before 8am) MH called and asked for me. I haven't actually resided with my parents since 1989, though I use their address for UK based correspondence (I have a NatWest account). The person who called said they were "Mackenzie DC" and would provide no more information. My mother said I don't reside there and haven't for many years. They just gave the following phone number and hung up: 01563 554540.

Through google I've concluded them to be the afore mention agency and so I sent the following email to this address:

    pmackenzie@mackenziehall.co.uk

    Dear Paul

    Re: telephone contact - ***** ******

The above phone number is that of my parents’ home. Members of your company have contacted this number, before 8am, to wake my elderly parents to ask to speak to me. I have not resided at this address since September 1989. I live and work overseas. I have occasionally used this address for UK correspondence.

After investigation, I have found that your company is a debt collection agency. I have no debt.

Please provide proof of this debt, via email, in the form of signed agreements or any last payments made.

This email address shall be the only point of correspondence. Should all contact from your company not cease and desist immediately for the above telephone number and associated postal address, I will seek to take action against you for harassment under section 40 (1) of The Administration of Justice Act 1970. I am also considering the possibility of action under the Human Rights Act 1988 as it is my opinion that the actions of Mackenzie Hall are in contravention of the Right to Respect for Private and Family life enshrined in the Act.

From my investigations, it has also come to my attention that this is in direct contravention of the requirements imposed on Mackenzie Hall Ltd by the Office of Fair Trading on the 15th April 2009.

    Yours faithfully,

    ____________________________

Will this suffice? Is there a better email address? How can I ensure my parents aren't harassed further? Please advise :)

How many years have you been abroad.?.

If longer then 6 since you had any contact, have never acknowledged the debts and there is no judgments against you, i think the debt is statue barred anyway so i wouldn't worry. There is a template on this site somewhere which you can send to them.

    Hi

I have received in the post a letter form a company called Mackenzie Hall. They say they are trying to contact me concerning a 'personal matter'. The letter is on photocopied headed paper and a printed signature. So far I have not contacted them and have no intention of doing so until they contact me with a specific request.

I have done google searches and found they are a debt collection service specialising in old or unrecoverable debts. I did have a CCJ from approx 96/97. I knew about this from a credit report done in 97. However no-one has ever contacted me to sayI owe them money, am in debt, are chasing debt etc etc.

I have 2 questions as follows:

    1) Has anyone else come across Mackenzie Hall and what were their experiences?

    2) Where do I stand, legally, with having to pay CCJ?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

These people are just conmen and should be ignored.
If you had an old debt, then it's expired. They may have purchased
it in order to try and frighten you but, the debt is now actually theirs - and not yours!.

Google the website.... "get out of debt free"

    cheers
  • I have just been called by MH, I have no debts and haven't for at least 10 years. Being called and asked to confirm my name, number (the one they called me on?) and address without giving me any information of what they want other than it is a 'personal matter' is not acceptable. My response to the lady (I call her this loosly due to her attitude from the start) was "you seem to have most of my details but as you insist you cannot tell me what this call is regarding then I reserve my right to not give you any further information and end this call" I don't see any point in being rude to her but she called me and used my full name but won't give me any information without me telling her all my details first.

If she told me what it was regarding then I would happily give her the information.

    Incase MH reads this post:
Please tell your operators to give a little more information when they call and I will be happy to give them any details they require but in all honesty in the scamming age we live in I won't be giving out any personal information to anyone unless they answer my questions first! :money:
  • I had a dealing with this lot 2 years ago trying to get a debt from 1998 from me. Sent the prove it letter and that was that....until recently, both home and mobile being bombarded with calls/messages to contact them. Ignored them as I think the debt they are chasing is from 1996 so I know it would be statute barred. ( I did get myself into a financial tizz back in the mid 90's). They rang this evening and although I told the wife about MH she had a memory lapse and answered the phone and told them 'I will pass him on to you'. When she told me who was on the phone I hung up straight away, I am not dealing with them by phone. So now await the subsequent letter now they know where I live... and the cycle continues :(
  • So a guy with a Scottish accent called me tonight from a Newcastle telephone number claiming to be from this company. He stated that they were a legitimate company and that they required to speak to me about a personal matter, then asked me to confirm my address.

Now I have never heard of this company and have no idea why they think they have the right to call me up and ask for my details! I refused to confirm my address until he told me who he was and what he wanted and he simply said that he 'would note the refusal' and then hung up.

Do I need to chase this up in some way or should I simply ignore it?

    Thanks in advance,

Is there any way of stopping them phoning? I seem to be getting messages from them every other day on the answer machine which aren't for me as I don't have any debts and they say what sounds like a computer generated name at the beginning which means nothing to me.

I don't want to get into any kind of dialogue with them but the calls are starting to get annoying now!

Apologies, just looked upthread and seen a similar problem. If I use the template in angryraisins post should this do the trick or am I best off ignoring it and putting up with the calls?
 - Just because I love this emoticon!

Would just encourage them I would think?

Probably better to just ignore or block their numbers if you are able. They will get fed up and go away eventually.
