Well, I finally got 'the call' today and spoke to a rather bored sounding chap no doubt in MHall's call centre. He told me I owed money on a credit card from 2005 or so and that he was trying to collect the money on behalf of his client. I have to confess that I told a little white lie in terms of "I've never had credit card" but for a good reason namely that having read so much about this company on this forum, before I give them ANY information about myself or agree to anything, I want to be sure that i'm dealing with a legitimate company with a legitmate claim! I told the young man to send me all the information he has relating to the charge and then we could proceed etc. I am perfectly willing to pay back anything outstanding that I may owe from my foolish past (!) however I do NOT want to pay my hard earned money into a potential black hole. I'll keep you posted as to the outcome of this which will hopefully be a detailed letter containing facts and figures I can recognise........why do I feel that might not be the case based on the unprofessionality of these guys so far.............we'll see.Hi,
I received a letter from MHall a couple of days ago and having not read this forum, I texted their 'immediate callback' number immediately to find out what was what. Two days, three repeat text requests for 'immediate callback' and an email requesting said callback later, still no contact.
I have no clear idea of what these chaps have got on me but after reading the forum, i'm inclined to ignore them from now on. I am currently debt free and have been for many years but I had a couple debts over six years ago when I was in a bit of a black hole.
I'd appreciate any advice as to what to do now, based on the fact that these guys now have my number via text and an email. Should I speak to them or just ignore all of this. (If they bother to get in contact that is......."immediate callback" indeed!!!!
Many thanks.0 -
Soon enough it could be statute barred if you just ignore it for another year:)

My husband got a letter from these scumbags yesterday about a debt to Cabot Financial regarding an overdue Barclaycard account.
It had the usual BS of they've contacted him lots of times before blah blah blah, etc etc.
Thing is hubby has never had a Barclaycard and they also tried to get him on this in 2007!
Same company(cabot), same debt, same amount but different reference numbers!
He sent the prove it letter back then and never heard anything back.
Should he just ignore them or write to them again?0 -

Go over to this thread.
I have put a template letter and instructions on how to get it completed there, complete with a link to the OFT guidance - ANY breach of that guidance by the DCA can go into the letter.
Remember, you do NOT have to provide date of birth, addresses, documents or anything else to prove you are not the debtor - the OFT guidance says so.0 -

Are you advising someone to avoid a debt which is currently enforceable?0 -

It isn't like Debt Collectors have a great deal of power either way Jammin. They don't seem to want to take debtors to court after all.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0
