  • I took out a payday loan from Quickquid three months ago I was two months late paying them back so they sold my debt to Mackenzie hall, I owed £320, I rang M H up to ask if I could spread the payments out but they insisted I paid in two instalments, they were polite on the phone but there was just something about them that scared the hell out of me they kept ringing me non stop until I rang them back, so its not only old debts that they go after.

Best part? I've only been in the country 3 years. I have ZERO debts. AND, this is an office mobile I inherited.

    It's so obviously fishing....

MH were not all that bad for me, about a year ago, i got a letter for a very late bank charge I never paid on a bank account i closed years ago, They wanted £215.00, I refused to pay it for ages, and then it was dropped to under £40.00, I paid that to shut them up, and that was that.

But they are dreadfull for sending out letter after letter,

Bet you penny to a pinch of you know what, that the debt was unenforceable.

    Good Morning,
I received a sms message on my mobile phone this morning from a company called Mackenzie Hall urging me to contact them on 015…….. Quoting a reference number. I did this and they informed me I owed a substantial amount of money and that basically if I did not pay the amount owed a doorstep collector would be sent to my address.
I told them I did not know about the debt and that it was nothing to do with me but they insisted it was. Further to this, I have not received and other communications or letters from them. Could you tell me where I stand with this and what action I can take.

I did get into a lot of financial difficulties in my late teens early 20's but that is all sorted now.

    Thanks everyone.

    How long ago was that?

To be honest, the best thing to do is just wait to see if the contact/write to you again.

If the are "fishing" for someone with a similar name/details, then you may never hear another thing,

If you do hear anything more, then it would probably be a good idea to post on the Debt-Free Wannabe board as well.

Hi I'm afraid I have another Mackenzie hall question. I got let a letter from them a few weeks ago stating that they are looking for payment of about £3000 for a RBS debt but the letter is a complete muddle. Its addressed to a previous name and says that they have been instructed by a credit reference agency to find me and that if i think it is not for me to call them. The debt could be a joint debt from ex husband however i have had a new name and address for over 8 years so even if it is it would definately be statue barred.

After reading this forum i decided to do nothing at all deciding that i would wait to see if they sent anything else first as if it really was for me surely they would start chasing for definate and i would then send a statute barred letter. However i checked my credit file today for another reason and found 6 searches in the last 3 months 3 in my new name and 3 in my old name. The all have outstanding debt as the reason. I have no outstanding debts or defaults or anything else on my file so now i'm really annoyed by these 6 searches which are in the section for credit applications - i certainly haven't applied to them for credit!! is there anything i can do to get them removed?
  • Hi,
I'm a single mother aged 26 and have recently been made redundant. I received a text message this morning from Mackenzie hall asking for me to contact Amy urgently and with a reference number and phone number. I have been trying to work out all my debts as my partner left me and the child alone. Its a hard enough struggle as it is. I don't remember having any debts with them or any outstanding ones that I may have missed. Should I ring them and ask what it is, or should I ignore text messages as I don't usually give out my number to anyone. I'm really worried about this.

    Thanks

    Marie

Hi Marie and Welcome to the forum

First of DONT BE WORRIED ABOUT MUCK HALL.

Second NEVER RING A DEBT COLLECTION AGENCY, they will lie, cheat and twist your words and make you feel small. Keep everything in writing. If they say "but we are telephone based" that is absolute twoddle.

They are just sending out a fishing text and will shortly be sending you silly standard template letters threatening hell and damnation, the wrath of God and even a plague of locusts.

You should when they start to write to you ask them to prove the debt exists, there are several ways of doing this depending on the debt.

To best assit you with your debt(s) and esp the likes of muckhall go over to http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/debt-collection-industry/ , they have a lot of specialist people who can help you and give you the template letters(though some are on here etc) . I would give you the links but i havent got time as i am of camping today:D:D:j:beer:

Hope you get it sorted, but above dont worry, no one will call round and just treat anything they send you like the rest of the junk mail you receive.

    Phil
