Visit trading standards or email the man himself. Search the thread and you will find the CEX email address.

Thanks Poppy9, but didn't quite understand you here. Who do mean to email, the manager at Tesco's?and what is CEX?

Almost the same thing happened to me with a PSP earlier this year.

It's underhand tactics and you don't have a leg to stand on - in my case the SEL was removed after I paid but before I reported the mis-price (it's a long story....)

Always, always accompany CS staff when inspecting SELs.

You've learnt a lesson - the hard way - but fair play to you for actually going out and having a go.

    Next time you'll score ;)

I think there may be some slight misunderstanding here. I bought the goods, reported it and I did accompany the CS staff while she went and found the expired SEL. So it's proof that it was there and Tesco have acknowledged that.

I think she meant email the Managing Director - terry.leahy@tesco.com

I also copy it to customer service, and it hasn't failed for me yet.
  • ive had a similar experience tonight with the xbox 360 game of the week.

on the shelf there was a white label with 'game of the week' 'prey'. next to it was a label detailing the £20 off if you bought the package. the correct printed colourful poster was also up. The prey game was highlighted at the top of the display between 2 blue game of the week display boxes.

did my duty and bought the package, no £20 discount.

went to CS desk and eventually handed over to the team leader of CS. I went with a couple of shelf stackers to determine what i had seen, the CS guy went after and took off the 2 stickers from the shelf, he agreed with me about the overcharge very politely, but could not do the refund and the manager was called, he was very stroppy as in the meantme the shelf stacker had repositioned the game of the week and 'lost' the white shelf label.
the manager refused to give me copies of the labels and would not cooperate in finding the missing label. i said i wanted to speak to head office and was told they coldnt do that.
got a refund to my card but handed back everything and said i woul;d speak to CS head office in the morning. Got 3 peoples name from the store who i had dealings with including the stroppy manager.

    keep you posted

...... i will not get a R and R as the store manager has CCTV footage of the promo SEL being removed early on this week??? Head office did not know whether this was taken down by a Tesco employee or a memeber of the public. I was also told that there had been fraudulent goings on there....apparently customers were taking the promo SEL's durring the offer and then re-positioning them after the promo had finished. Can not believe that this is a valid excuse that Head office would use? Any advice...apologies for the long post!

    Absolutely agree with Asdaprice.
If Tesco staff have had the time to trawl thru a weeks worth of cctv archives to find the moment when the sel was removed by staff, then THEY can find when it was put up again and by whom.
Unless it was yourself, or someone you are in cahoots with their argument is flawed.
If it was re-sited days ago, why had it not been spotted and removed by staff ?
IMO - Just because manager can 'show' it being taken down a week ago, doesn't prevent Tesco Manager being responsoible for prices on display in his store today.

I think it was my first ever R&R ( don't we all remember our first time :o ) when I got a game with wrong sel, which was removed. Then the correct sel appeared, then a week later the display had no sel at all. Then a week later the old sel price re-appeared, and I chanced my arm and got another R&R.
If Tesco staff put up wrong sel once, they can do it again.
Even if they take an old sel down...( managers 'evidence') he would have to prove that his staff did not put a new 'incorrect' one back up later.
Surely the burden of proof is on the store to prove YOU did something wrong, or that someone else tampered with the sel just prior to you picking up the item. Don't know if any legal bods are about tonight to offer their opinion ?

If there have been 'fraudulent goings on there' well what has the manager and his staff been doing about it ? - checking the sels more rigorously/frequently ? If so then they must KNOW that this sel was correct say first thing that morning .....and have the cctv coverage to prove it. So that gives them even fewer hours of coverage to scan thru for their culprit.;)

This also does not excuse the appalling way you have been treated. If I follow your story correctly it took them over 24 hours to come up with the 'on-going fraudelent activity' excuse....and this was what they told HO, you were simply told manger knew sel HAD been removed correctly. If they genuinely believed YOU had done something wrong, why did the manager not have the 'spherical-objects' to speak to you himself on the day.
How come he was available to cs to deny you the R&R, but suddenly in a meeting a few moments later when YOU ask to speak to him. Any manager worth their salt would have said to their cs staff "No don't give an R&R, do you want me to come and have a word with the customer...?" Not hide behind the scenes.
You say you told them you would return after work...yet when you did the manager had left ( so they said:cool: ) and no-one else knew anything about the issue (.....would love to know what Constantine and other Tesco bods think of this display of management skills and customer relations !)
They took your number and said someone would call you - but nobody did. Interesting that they found the time to communicate with HO by the time you phone HO, to give THEIR side of the story.
You also say he argued you should have seen the expiry date of the sel....well this seals his fate as far as I'm concerned. Talk about guilding the lilly. First you are part of some on-going fraudulent activity removing and replacing sels, then its your job to buy better glasses to read all the small print, which is clearly not designed for customers to read in the first place. Surely the stuff aimed at us it the BIG poster, with BIG writing.....to attract customer attention.
If you are the one re-siting old sels, why would the onus be on you to read the small print - you've had 4 days with it in your bag at home to do that !!
If he says he is refusing an R&R due to YOU failing in your duty to read all the small print, why has he told HO all this rubbish about fraudulent activities ?

Wow, thats worked off some of my frustrations !!:D
  • tried for my first ever R&R today
the beef joints, made sure i got the right one, big yellow sign saying reduce from 6.48 a kg to 5.18

    found one that said 6.48

made sure it was british, had basting fat everything. went to cs, he went over to meat and said i hd the worng size?!? that it was only medium ones.

I argued that this wasnt clear and i had gotten it from the section marked 5.18.
she said someone must have dumped it there and refused R&R. Yt there were laods there the same ize and they had all 5.18 on pack.

never got R&R after much doscussion so got a refund

Bought the Genesis Plat today and the sticker said 8.67 and it went through the till at 12.97.

Went off to Customer Services and pointed out I had been overcharged. The response was grumpy and off hand, we had to jump through all sort of hoops, had to fill in a piece of paper with our name and address on and then hand over our Tesco card, when questioned why we were told it was to send details to head office so that the price would be corrected.

Do others have to go through this questioning?
  • well frequent, I dont think cs like me anyway as I have complained to the managing director about their manager after a pool of water was spilled and not warned about and my son slipped and fell and bit through his lip. (he is almost 2)

the store manager wasnt interested, so have gone to complaints dept (no eply) and now MD.

so i dont think they are keen on me lol
