Possibility of a council house? No idea how to start.

I would lay money that they would not get anything anytime soon - and there are thousands of families living in one bed flats in my area.
I work for a LA and have close links with other LA's so I would actually suggest that my comments are less of a generalisation than you would suggest.
It is better that the OP be realistic about her chances of being housed by her council and looks at alternatives. Let us not forget the OP does not have a child and therefore no priority. Her sister might get houses but still...there will be a long wait. Of course, she should apply but as I say, be realistic.
i am single no kids and was housed in 9 months in my area from private rented to council, then moved to were iam now 5 months later i guess it depends on area0 -

I am being realistic. It is you who is not. I know of no LA who would house mum, dad, child and sibling in a one bed flat. I do, however, know of a number of LA's who would allocate a house, and within the 15 years quoted for YOUR LA.0 -

Then you are the exception rather than the rule. As I have said (twice now) the OP should apply but should be realistic about her chances of securing council housing. Better to expect little and be pleasantly surprised than to expect and be disappointed. Besides which, if things are so cramped, why hasn't anyone already looked at renting privately? They are on so many benefits they'll qualify for LHA no problem.0 -

I'll bet that of those 5 adults, mum and dad eat the least, wash the least, leave appliances running the least etc etc etc.0 -

Whatever you say, WWH. You are clearly the expert here. Considering your post count in a ridiculously short period of time, you clearly have nothing better to do than post on here so you must be the expert.
OP, forget looking at all your options - the council are standing by with a four bed house they are desperate to give you - rent free!

I have to say that my sister and I don't I guess, give my mum much money, so it is my dad and mum who shoulder most of the bills. It is more about whether my sister, boyfriend, baby could get a council place and if possible I go share with them?0 -

The OP asked, specifically, about social housing. Of the 60 million plus people in this country, only 170 have looked at this thread so far.... and one of them got re-housed within months, NOT the 15 years you are trying to frighten the OP with. What are the chances of that?0 -
