Are you with Halifax, I am and I have have to either go into the back with my OP or OP over the phone if I phone the number on the mortgage statement
I keep complaing to them about why I can't OP on-line as well, but apparently you can't do this from a Halifax acount
Hi Radish,
no we have the mortgage with the woolwich. Sorry we have just got back from our hols yesterday ( nice farm).0 -
hey southend
hope you had a nice hols (sounds lovely!) dont know much about woolwich mortgages Im afriad, you could look on line to see what is possible, I did this with mine and found you could set up the mortgage as an "account" with online banking, so can at least view the balance online?..
good luck with finding some answers!0 -
so...thought id post a bit of an update
have been feeling quite demoralised and just "blah" today ...like this is an impossible task at the moment....
I think I need to set myself what feels like an achievable goal .... . I am quite capable of living frugally and cutting down on all possible, but am also a perfectionist when it comes to setting really high targets so in need of some kind of balance! (note to self : find some kind of balance
)
good points- am keeping the grocery spends down at the mo, and also was given a tesco voucher today so no spends for a couple of weeks! hurrah! plus, got some cash back someone owed me which is helpful and also one more thing sold on amazon ...nothing major but every little is helping...0 -
mornin all...
have posted off 2 of OHs old mobiles so we should get about £38 from there, packaged up a load of cds I never listen to for musicmagpie which should earn almost a tenner, £5 something coming in from amazon and still 3 books and a dvd listed and 3 things to try and sell on ebay might take them off and re-list in september and have the next few weeks as "holiday weeks" ....then I have officially sold/cleared out everything possible (without trying to sell OHs stuff....hmmmmmm....wonder if he would notice?...
)
... am being very frugal with the food shopping too so we are not building up much on that front ...almost have enough points from my cc to get another amazon voucher so any big bills like car tax in the next few months can go on that so I can get the voucher before they double the points u need! that can go in the xmas present box...0 -

not sure which mortgage company you are with? some you need to overpay as a bank transfer or take the money directly into the branch- I know halifax will let you set up a standing order to OP from another bank.... if you wanted to start your own thread Im sure lots of people will pop in with some ideas and suggestions!
right.....have gone from feeling pretty demoralised about the financial situation to trying to see this as an opportunity .... I do not have any big amounts of money coming in for the next few months, but am wanting to find a way to OP what little I can...
plans for this week:
1)re-do SOA and make sure I am getting the best deals on everything (think I am but you never know)
2)pay money made from amazon sales (£34) into mortgage as an OP ...not much, but psychologically think it will do me good to feel I have done something to OPing the mortgage!
3) waiting for a cheque for £10 - pay as OP when this is recieved
4)cut down on food shop spends and use batch cooking and meal planning- am doing ok on this, £26ish spent this week including toileteries so not just food! am aiming for under £200 per month food shops (for 2 of us should be doable)..so far this week have made 2 cakes, one in the freezer, frozen half a loaf of bread rather than chucking it because we dont eat it and it goes mouldy! and meal planning for what we are eating this week!
5)work out how much savings I have to live on for the next couple of months (these will need to be built up again once I am working)
6) list a couple of items on ebay and re-list on amazon or other seller some books I have ... any money made can go into OPs
Longer term plans:
1) look for another job that is sustainable and less stress.....I think I have pretty much burnt myself out with the current one, added to that a real bullying culture (of myself and others) ...its not somewhere I want to be... this may mean taking a fairly substantial drop in income and/or some re-training but I think in the long term it will be worth it, even if it means say a year or 18months of not being able to make OPs or as much as I would like..in the grand scheme of things health and happiness are more important- and this is my big goal in being MF is so I can have control over my own work situation and be in a job I enjoy and find fulfilling...
2)claim tax back either when I go back to work or start new job (as will not be claiming anything for the next couple of months even though I am not being paid) this can be put into OPs and should be a few hundred squid with any luck!
3) look into doing surveys for clubcard points/amazon vouchers to use to buy xmas presents
4)decorate place I rent and rent out at market value so it will pay for itself (this will be in about 6-9 months time when current tennants move)
feeling a bit like I am doing this all on my own now...mrDeleted_User seems pretty uninterested in the whole MF idea ..despite initially showing an interest and making some musings that he "should try and OP his mortgage" ...... he is more interested at this stage in life in "stuff" he wants- which is fine....I have never really been into "stuff" so to speak (the newest things, big tvs/computers, expensive clothes) so my "stuff" I want with any extra income I have , is my mortgage paid off as much as possible so I can have peace of mind financially and the security of knowing I cannot lose my home or be thrown out of my own home... at the moment its all a bit of a moot point I guess as we dont have a joint mortgage so until we buy a house together (which wont be for a few years by which point I want as much of my mortgage paid down as poss!) it kind of doesnt matter.....but I sometimes feel he thinks Im being stupid or unrealistic in my ideas to pay the mortgage off...or like this is me stressing myself out for no reason- when in fact I am wanting it to do the very opposite!!
how have others won partners round, or have you "gone it alone" so to speak?... I think it feels harder when it feels we are working towards different goals....but then again it could work out okay as when we have abig deposit for the house with all I want to OP into my mortgage, he will have all the nice "stuff" to put in it!!
Hiya Deleted_User,
mine is the same (pain!!) He does not see the point whatsoever.
We came to an agreement that every time i went to town and didn't buy myself a drink etc (only real treat) i can keep all of the money and spend it on anything i want - don't even have to tell him how much i have saved ( he pays for it).
I have been a little naughty, ie: when he would give me money for my birthday to buy say a pair of jeans, told him i had spent whole £20.00 for example and paid only about £6-£12. Silly money like collecting 1ps in glass bottle etc, he hates them so gives me the coppers, because they are a pain to him.
However, i do where you are coming from, pretty much in the same situation as you (not at work).
I think that you are trying to do everything yourself, hence making your life more stressful, you can do it but your list is very long. You are doing it, keep it up every little helps. Have you thought your head could be a little clearer without worrying, god you have been doing enough and stress is not good for you. Thinking of you, you are doing it all - keep it up0 -
Hi southend
glad you had a good holiday!
yeah I think a lot of the stress is feeling like I have to hold the world up on my own so to speak...it isnt a helpful way to think and actually not really true in terms of the help and support I could get if I just asked!!
I think because I have a lot of time on my hands to think about it and go over it (aka worry!) I am becoming more bogged down with the minutae of it all, ...a few months of living frugally cant hurt the MSE efforts in the future I guess!.0
