Well, I was considered to be in line for chairman of ICI - maybe if I hadn't missed that hour.....
Do you think it's too late for me to sue?0 -

I can see why this would upset people - if you need to upset your boss and take leave without giving the required amount of notice then you'd rather do it on a day when they are given the whole day, and you can go swimming, to the park etc

I don't know what my eldest son's school is doing, he claims not to have had a letter, but lots of students live in villages more than 10 miles away. Okay it won't be dark and they could cycle home in theory but those tiny country lanes without paths aren't suitable for bikes because the traffic needs to get past. It's really not safe. Even at age 13 I wouldn't let mine do it, even if I was certain he'd wear a helmet. Luckily we only live a mile away from school and he has a key so he can sort himself out if they do kick them out.
I honestly think that if school doesn't do something then lots of kids will be taking the entire day off school. If they do close early though they will have to sort out a change in bus times with the buses that take kids to the villages really, either that or let kids stay in school until the normal home time if they need to.52% tight0 -

there are no TV's on delivery suite where i work
I'm not sure if you're joking or not
I just don't 'get' football. I don't understand why people can't miss the first half. If you watch the second half then you know the score, and if you are really interested in what happened in the first half then there's always catch-up TV, iplayer etc.
I really don't understand why people have to see the first half

When my kids were in primary school during the Korea world cup and games were kicking off early morning the school opened early, put TV on in the hall and provided bacon butties and toast for anyone who wanted to come in early to watch it. The kids absolutely loved it and then they used the information about the teams to build into their geography work
Our school did that too, and the kids who watched the football in the hall got to miss some of the school day. The kids who didn't watch football were weighing it up, was it worth pretending to like football in order to miss history :rotfl:52% tight0 -
my kids school has had a world cup week where the kids have been learning about the different countries taking part in the world cup and on wednesday all the kids, parents and teachers are having a world cup party, a hog roast, bouncy castles, penalty shoot out competitions and lots of other things going on,then we are all going to watch the game on a big screen in the hall. should be fun and the kids are learning at the same time.when your life is a mess light one more cigarette its so logical!!
get up and dance, get up and smile, get up and drink to the days that are gone in the shortest while :T

I've heard about 1 or 2 schools in my area shutting early but I'd heard nothing till today when son's school sent home a letter. They are letting them watch the world cup in the hall for anyone who wants to until half time when you can pick them up or allow them to walk home. :T0

Our Primary have decided to bring the children to the hall at 2.45pm to watch the game. They can be collected at 2.45pm, normal time, or stay until the end of the match in the hall and be collected.
Obviously not a ploy to get off early as some have suggested, more like a genuine desire for the children to be part of a large sporting event, and show abit of patriotism.
I do hope those worried so much about 1 hour of school time ensure all appointments are made after 3.15pm, they never holiday in term time, or are absent on their birthday, and aquire homework when ill."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of."
