Why is this?It IS amounts under £6000 where you will not lose benefit.
You will not need to hid money.
I know I won't lose benefit but will I get the full amount of JSA? or will it be slashed?
Hopefully people I can find a job before my current one finishes.0 -

Its just an old rumour that theres some kinda of 'computer system' that the dwp just type your name and address into, and that shows them every bank account in your name and the amount of money in the account!
Oh no. Like yourself, they are even simpler than people imagine. If they even suspect that you have money salted away, it is up to you to prove that you don't. They don't need to use a special computer to look at your bank statements. All they need to do is ask YOU to bring them in. Much easier that way.0 -
As long as you have £5,999 or less in your bank account though you will get the full jsa pay rate and so have no need to hide any money. lol
Although theres no laws at all against hiding your own money wherever you want, so if you want to split it all between 10 different bank accounts you are perfectly entitled to do that.
As long as you have less than £5,999 in total it doesn't matter how you choose to store it.0 -

Normally the jc just ask for your last 1month's statement, or some jcs ask for your last 2months of bank statements.
Itd be extremely rare to endup at a jc who asked to see more than 3months worth of bank statements though.
For 98% of the claimants who start a jsa claim the jobcentre staff don't have the time or care to bother suspecting and investigating them,
especially with the huge number of people now unemployed and claiming jsa.
They are paid barely more than minimum wage and so all they care about is ticking the boxes on their computer screen to get the person's jsa payments started.
And so just ask to see a recent bank statement, you show them it, it shows less than £6,000, they tick the box on their screen confirming they have seen your bank statement showing under 6k, and bingo your claim is all done and finished being processed, and your payments start.
Makes you wonder how they ever detect fraud..... but they still do!0 -

The first accurate thing you've posted. Well done.
Of course, if entitled to contribution based JSA, you could have as much money as you want and it still won't effect the benefit paid.0 -

You really haven't got a clue how anything in the big world works do you.
Isn't is past your bedtime anyways, as its a school day for you tomorrow.
If what you said was the way the system works then no-one would get paid any benefits money,
as every jobcentre in the country could just ask every person who makes a claim to ''prove the impossible''! :rotfl:
(The jc could say that they think you have £10,000 cash hidden in your house or in a different location, and so they wont pay you any benefits until you prove that you don't have that cash.
But so how could anyone ever prove that they dont have cash hidden somewhere??
It'd be asking them an impossible task.0 -
Aphrodite868 wrote: »Dont panick! lol
The jobcentre have no what whatsoever of knowing or checking how much cash you have stored at your house or in your bank accounts.
All you have to do is show them a statement of all bank accounts that you tell them you have, and as long as you've got under £6,000 in there they just tick the box on their screen and your jsa starts.
That's right AphroditeTroll, and then all the OP has to do is wait until the next tax year where he will get issued statements showing intrest/tax paid on his accounts, and wait for the system to catch up with him and he'll then be done for fraud if he has hidden money that should've declared.
Will you stop advising people on things that might land them in jail?
The trollfood cafe is now open ..........but not on this forum

A bank statement in August/September isn't going to show the Job Centre I withdraw money out in June.
No, but with it being June now......three months worth of statements will!
I don't understand why you don't just be honest with them? It certainly makes sleeping at night a whole lot easier, as well as answeing the phone, getting the mail, answering your door.....0 -

What a strange thing to say.
I can see no reason why the OP wouldnt be entitled to either IB or CB JSA0 -

Well, he's stated that he's young, working part time only, and living at home still. Might be that he doesn't have the contributions made that will entitle him to contributions based, which means he'll go on income based, which he will qualify for - but he will also have to show financial information. With under £6000 in the bank he will qualify for that (as long as there are no other mitigating factors), so has no need to hide any money or do anything else illegal.0
