  • My ebay sales are not going well, I've had watchers for the same thing two weeks running but not bids. Why does somebody watch something all week and then not bother

On the :) front I got my £10 Christmas box from the Government today :j:j

Had to google the £10 Christmas box - enjoy! :)

Yes, the ebay watchers thing is annoying but a lot of watchers have something similar to sell and they are interested in finding out how much it sells for. Others are watching quite a few similar things and many just forget about them are aren't interested after a few days. I've done this myself. :o

Well I've 'borrowed' some money out of an unused joint overdraft to help cover this month, so that will be my priority to pay back. This account is never used, and I had to hunt down the details so I could access it, and I would like it to go back to it's unused status.

I've also worked out that this month would not actually have been too bad if it wasn't for some poor money management, so the finances are not as dire as they have been and would have been much better had I not 1) overpaid the credit card by so much, 2) DH's money gone missing, and 3) a couple of other things I should have done differently (i.e. not paying bills quite so early, and I could have paid them using alternative methods).

That did cheer me up somewhat, though I still have some work to do.

I did stumble across a thread on here though, which said my bank's online systems had some down time over the same period that the payment from DH should have gone through, and a number of people have had incoming payments rejected. This may explain a lot, and we need to see if that is what happened. If so, I shall certainly be sending a strongly worded complaint to my bank and looking for all charges etc to be refunded and compensated

Like a complete numpty I managed to reverse into a lamp post this morning  The bloody thing was in the middle of the parking space! I was using my mirrors, but didn't realise it was so far forward, and at the time I hit it, I was looking at the mirrors on the other side keeping an eye on the pedestrian. Luckily I can't see any damage at all, but will get DH to check for me. I wasn't going fast so think I nudged it rather than anything else.

DH has sold a large item on amazon so he will be very pleased. I am also very pleased as it was blocking my access to my books :D

    Overall, a super-duper positive post. :j

OK, not the lamp-post bit but it looks like there's no harm done. Having access to that overdraft is the next best thing to having an emergency fund, so well done you. And YAY to the large item selling on amazon - another bit of 'stuff' out of the house.

And of course the bank that's messed up your DH's money transfer should recompense you for the inconvenience caused and any charges you may have incurred.

    It's all good, Jwil. :T

    Hiya all :)

Sorry if i miss anything out as there is so much to catch up on!

Peaceandfreedom - so sorry to hear about your OH's redundancy happening now. Hope he finds something new soon x Good that your work is so busy though :)
jwil - your analysis of the month you had was good to read - as peaceandfreedom said mostly positives in there and good that you had the overdraft to fall back on ;) Grr! to pesky lamp-posts getting in the way though - i've never actually understood the logic of these being put smack in the middle of a parking space though ! That said OH has 'bumped' my car  - he's said he'll get the damage repaired (i know its not much but its a dent and scrapes / scratches? that weren't there before. This was several months ago and no sign of it being done :( Every time i go to my car now its the first thing i see - not sure if thats due to me knowing its there anyway or if its just so obvious :undecided Obviously if this had been the other way round and i'd damaged his car i'd still be hearing about it now - although i now have a fantastic comeback when he harps on about being a better driver :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
retiredandskint i hope that all is well with you :)
i've just got up and turned the heating off - was already wearing 2 jumpers ;) but i've just gotten up to a gas and electric bill  i actually thought the next ones were due in january and i have absolutely £0 budget for them. Although this is the usual case - with my very low income & outgoings high (compared to my last job) i just can't budget for this each month as there is literally no money there to do so

I had gotten to the stage of thinking i needed to top up some presents so i guess this has knocked that idea on the head :o

Hope its a good tuesday for all x

Computing. What degree have you got and what one are you currently studying for? I'm impressed! :T

I've got Geosciences and am about to complete Environmental Studies. I'd like to do their Earth Science masters too, but that may have to wait a while.

Thanks guys. The overdraft is not one I can rely on, and I don't want to use it again. I'd actually forgotten it was there as we've never used it. The only way I could access the funds was to pay a bill by debit card from that account, I couldn't actually transfer the money out. I then used the cash I would have used for that bill to cover the other stuff. It's just silly all this messing around. I need a proper emergency fund.

Luckily I don't appear to have damaged my car so that's all good. I've never done that before, I guess I just had so much on my mind yesterday I wasn't taking proper notice.

Sorry my posts have been a bit down the last few days, I was getting a bit overwhelmed but am feeling better now. :)

That's frustrating about the car DDFW. DH has something called T-Cut which he uses on a scratch on a car - it does work wonders - it kind of polishes them out. Maybe that might be an option until your OH gets round to it?

Boo to the heating bill though. Maybe it will be a bit better when you get your new boiler. I'm hoping ours won't be too steep. We have a new boiler and radiators in this house and I think overall our bills are pretty similar to what they were in the last house, even though it's bigger and less insulated. I'm not particularly frugal with the heating either, so they could be smaller if I made more of an effort.

    Hi Jwil & DDFW

I do tend to feel the cold but we try not to put on our heating during the day - so I am sitting here with fingerless gloves, two jumpers and big thick socks. There's a halogen heater in the corner doing its best but I'm still chilly. You get used to it though. :)

I have no idea what our current heating bills are as the energy company is hopeless at keeping us informed. It's very annoying. I've a feeling it won't be good news when we do finally find out!! I think our direct debit is too low. Ah well. :o

Cheers m'dear. I am hoping he gets fixed up soon, not least because having him knocking around the house all day is going to be too much (aren't I awful!).

Do you not pay your heating by direct debit every month - we do this and so the lower bills in the summer compensate for the higher ones in the winter (says she hopefully!).

I decided the other day that I might have a hunt for some fingerless gloves and thermals. I feel the cold more than DH so it would stop me from putting the heating on so often. One of my friends sent me a hat the other day in the post, so I might make use of that too.
