I need a new PC and have no idea what to buy - please help

Thank you.
If this is really the motherboard, then you're right. I based all my comments on the links provided in this thread. http://www.crucial.com/uk/systemscanner/viewscanbyid.aspx?id=CF20833331D926C3 said that it is a different motherboard. And this motherboard has four memory slots with two used with 256MB each.
Again, if you click the link and add the two recommended modules to your basket, it says PC2700.
I tried to find the e4028 on the crucial website, but it wasn't listed. So the OP must have used the scan tool and identified the motherboard as "eMachines D915GAG Motherboard".
So I don't feel "embarrassed" at all. Everything I wrote is right for this motherboard.
The Part No: CT6464Z40B listed in the post with the Crucial link is a 512MB RAM PC3200 module.
I already wrote that I took back my abrupt comment as it is clear we both had differing sources of equally cogent information. Though in truth I was also referring to you "faster than you need" comment.
I suggest that they OP actually opens up the tower and takes a look or runs a scan using CPU-Z to be sure.
If four slots, she can cancel the 1 GB order and re-order 2 x 512 MB from the same link as the 1 GB. Therefore for £29. No need to purchase from Crucial.0 -
If you want a computer to last and work for a long time, how about an imac? Apple is compatible with everything Microsoft and more, lasts for ages, retains value, etc, etc, etc - most importantly, no need to mess around with it's insides and no more viruses! I switched to Apple earlier this year as I was sick of replacing rubbish microsoft based laptops year after year, much easier transition than I thought (the biggest problem being that things are much easier than I thought they were - used to the long way round favoured by microsoft!). Literally - everything just works.

- agreed, and I decided when I read your #54 earlier to be gentle and not respond.
- but
- are you suggesting that someone who plays poker and watches video's should spend £800 on an iMac ?
- and would you elaborate on your assertion that "" Apple is compatible with everything Microsoft and more ""
- - just an opinion

A good computer for around £1000 was the spec? With my own experience of upgrading and messing around with computers (which was never a great experience), it seemed like a good option - one that I have recently taken - albeit with a laptop rather than a desktop.
"Apple is compatible..." - It runs all the microsoft software (exceptions being few and far between, and there's always parallels/VMware) and has other stuff like iLife for photos and making things pretty, which is nice.0 -

- they can run intel architecture through bootcamp.
- but .. .. .. what's the point of buying an iMAC to run windows ?
- only phanboys / girls buy iMAC, and they are entitled to do so, most MAC owners use Microsoft to run proper programmes so why buy an iMAC?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. He's using the same age old argument that Mac's are better than PCs simply because they cost twice as much. It's all bollox and was pretty well debunked as such in a recent thread. It's become a very tiring argument...0 -

Snooze,
Yeh, it was an unfortunate first post, it's been doing the rounds as long as the Linux is better than ...... argument. I was trying to lead a new poster into a more generalist entry to the group, or at least help him / her to understand that these evangelical views are dragging the thread away from the O/P's needs.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Do a product search on PCWorlds website and search for Product No. 707584
It has a 20" touch screen, windows 7, 3gb ram, 640gb HDD.
More than enough for your needs, its only £599, free delivery and if you use the code DSKTP5 you will get another 5% off the already reduced price.
To get your old hard drive documents etc transferred, a local computer store or PCworlds techie guys can do it for you for £99 (local computer shop would be cheaper).
Considering you said you had a hand injury, a touch screen could be well worth considering. In The Silence Of The Night, We Still Hear Their Screams...0
