  • Afternoon everyone, looks like a few positives for a few of us today:)

Two more letters arrived to today for me, one from M&S to say that they will wait for CCCS to contact them with a proposal for payment and in the meantime to keep up with the £1 token payments and the other from MBNA who say that they "look forward" to discussing my level of repayment and to let me know that the reduced payment programme will be recorded on my file for the life of the account and then for a further 6 years afterwards... is that correct?

I've been busy baking this afternoon (inspired by this forum). I haven't done any cooking/baking for ages as OH usually does it all. I've really enjoyed myself making batches of different soups and flans to freeze and I've even dug out my breadmaker and there is a fruit loaf baking as I write:) My breadmaker is almost new (probably only used 5/6 times) and has sat in a cupboard for years. I had to re-stock with ingredients but had £11 of Tesco vouchers so only had to pay 20p towards the cost and will probably have around 18 meals in total:j

In a weird way I feel really liberated at the moment and very determined... a total turnaround from the gibbering wreck of 4 weeks ago;)
Hi Ellie, yes I'm afraid that any default notices, etc, are recorded for 6 years, but, as we say here, do you want any more credit off them?
Glad to hear you are baking, isn't it the most relaxing thing in the world? I've lost many an afternoon stirring chillis, stews and jam, but when you are wound up about everything money related, ir's impossible! Viva liberation!:)

My, my what fun lives we do lead. ;) And  for doing so!
As per Scouselad's post I'm always gobsmacked by other people's view and handling of money. "These sandals only cost £50" or "we only had £1000 to spend on holiday."
I just wonder if they are covering up the real problems and pretending to themselves or am a really living in a parallel universe?

No Babes, that's what I did (what a moron!) I once spent £99 on a pair of boots, in the sale. Wore them twice then sent them to the Hospice charity shop when this DMP started, because I couldn't bear to look at them, and be reminded of my complete stupidity.:o
Pretending to yourself is only the half of it! However, I now know that I will never do that again, so perhaps I needed a sting to teach me?
You are NOT living in a parallel universe (wouldn't that be so much nicer?) just !!!!ville with the rest of us, the lifers! x

I have been exactly the same today. Been digging out my cookery books this week as leading up to our lightbulb moment & beyond I was just stuck in a rut with meals for the family. I'm determined to actually eat better now if thats possible -by making it more interesting. Pricing up everything now which I have never done before and as you say it is liberating. Had a lovely but reasonably cheap meal tonight (abut £5) which I think is good for 5 of us and I enjoyed preparing it.
Making bread tomorrow too. Got the flour and yeast in the cupboard which may well be out of date but hey ho when needs must!!

Just looking forward with fingers crossed for some letters saying interest has been frozen for us too but may be a while off.

Defo agree with eating better, I've lost 2 stone since starting my DMP! Admittedly that was through cutting out takeaways, having packed lunch and cutting down on drink, but still, that wouldn't have happened if I hadn't started the DMP.

Morning everyone, hope that you are all o.k. - the sun is shining at the moment and I am feeling so much better than I did 4 weeks ago.

DMP is almost set up and apart from the numerous phone calls reminding us that the preditors are lurking, life is o.k... at the beginning of all of this I felt like my life had ended and although I know its going to be tough I am so much more positive about the future and maybe I will be debt free before I retire:)

    Hugs to you all
    Ellie xx

That's great, Ellie, obviously eating all that lovely home made grub has cheered you up as well!!:)
The sun is shining here too, and it really does lift your spirits, have loads of washing out as tumble dryer broken and trying to do without till end of the month. Maybe I'll get that electric bill down a bit!

Maybe you should have kept them TF as a painful reminder of your 'previous life' (although you are now a reformed character:)) to give a painful sting when it all seems a bit too much....
I cherish a set of three bracelets - these were the last puchase I ever made on my credit card. I look at them now and think - why?

Bit of good news today; managed to reduce my motor insurance by £120 p.a.

It's with the same company and insurer:eek: rang them and they gave me a new price straightaway, it just goes to show how much of a rip off it is.

If I wasn't in difficulty I won't have bothered phoning, would just paid the premium.

Well done you and welcome to the world of money saving! :)
To you and all the other newbies who are learning the value of home cooking etc.
It's amazing how you can stick either through loyalty or a sort of 'I can't be bothered' mentally to over-priced deals that you've had for years. It is hard work sometimes but be a 'tart' as the great :money:
suggests and spread yourself yourself around a bit! ;) You'll be amazed at how you can pare your budget if you've not done this before.
And home cooking is brill. Bigger, healthier portions for lots less money and with the satisfaction of saving lots of dosh as well:rotfl:
The 'big boys' of the supermarket world are worth billions-you're not. You won't want to rely on a measly, over-salted plastic microwave meal again once you've got the cooking organised.
