Hi,I have been on my new DMP now for 2 months and just by reading this I have realised that quite a few companies we are with have not stopped the interest payments.
I am very new to all this and not very money-savvy (hence the mess we are in!) and I didn't realise that I need to check new statements from my creditors for added interest!!
I have to say, I am a lot happier and I finally sleep at night now knowing that the hundreds of phone calls from collection agencies have stopped and that I am in control of what happens. :T

I do worry about the mortgage though. Although I know I will never get a credit card/loan ever again, we will want to think about re-mortgaging the house in the future to get a better deal.
Does the 6 year on file mean that after the DMP is paid, we will have to wait another 6 years or will our credit file be clear as soon as it is all paid off?
I am really confused about this bit!

Apologies as just a quick reply.
If you are defaulted on an account, then the six years start from the date the default was added. (So earlier is better than later if you are defaulted)
The creditors actualy have to issue a default (black mark, slap on wrist!) Just because you are on a DMP doesn't add six years automatically.
Sorry if I have confused you even more - posting this sneakily whilst at work :(

Yes I am aware of the arrears on the Barclarycard.
Yes I am still on a DMP.
No I can't pay the arrears.
No I won't come to a seperate agreement with you.
Yes we are paying as much as we can.
No we won't be able to pay more.
Yes there are arrears with Barclaycard.
No I definitely won't come to a seperate agreement with you.
No I'm not really that worried about you selling the debt on.
Nope, not even if they are 'local' and start coming to the door.
Nah, not really embarassed by that at all actually.
No I definitely can't pay anything extra.

I've got a funny feeling I'm going to have the same conversation with a debt collection agency rather soon.

Morning, all. Hope you're all doing OK. My first DMP payment was due to go out on 1st April also but I'm pretty much not going to have the money for it. Am ringing CCCS later to throw myself on their mercy and hope they'll be OK with me paying on 10th or 12th.

I don't want to drag the list down but I am having a really hard time with things at the moment. It feels like more bills are appearing out of nowhere (although I obviously must have known about them at some point) and money is just not stretching far enough. I know some of this is to do with not having my paperwork etc... organised but I feel as if I have spent years struggling with this debt and that I am not grown up enough or lack the basic self control to pay my bills on time and stick to a budget.

I'm waffling, I know, but does anyone know what I mean?

    Hey Sara,

The first couple of months are really hard and feel like it just might not work. Our experience has been that being forced onto a budget was what we needed. Yes, it's been incredibly hard at times. Speak to CCCS and just be honest with them, then I suggest you work out whether the budget that you've set with them is realistic - are these bills regular are or they one-off type of things? Best of luck - it does get better.

Hi. Keep in there. I was horrified at the start when I thought I had the complete balance and then kept remembering this and that. You aren't the first and will not be the last. Usually by the end of the second month you will know what the worst the balance is going to be, be prepared for it to rise, I had one month of £10 tokens and my debt rose by 2.5%. However then you will start to see it coming down, the rate it does this depends what 'luck' you have with the preditors stopping or reducing interest.

Without meaning to sound rude you need to decide whether you are going to allow yourself to be a victim or become a survivor. Jump on board with us, I'm sure you will be a survivor. If you worry about something it's best to post the specific so people can share the load and offer different perspectives for coping and resolution. It will get better, we're all proof.

It was a year ago I was having my lightbulb moment, CCs slashed limits and I was refused a consolidation loan by my bank. I was working my way through the thread before this one in its entirity. This time next week it will be a year since I did the debt remedy tool on CCCs, two days later I applied online and had new banks and wages changed etc within a matter of days. I haven't managed to stop all interest. In the beginning I though I would be paid off in 39 months, when I totalled all the forgotten bills it was 41.35 months, now it looks like 48 months in total. I will formally hit my DMP anniversary in 4 weeks time with almost 25% paid off. Yes the other three years feel a long way off but now I know I can do it and I know how great my life will be post DMP.

Keep in there, big hug for today and keep posting, you will get through this rocky couple of months. :grouphug:

    HHx
  • Sarah, welcome to the thread and good luck, we'll help you keep your spirits up....start repeating 'I'm a Survivor' ....
  • Well I've gone and done it, received my wage slip, up to date credit card and loan statements and I posted my DMP agreement to CCCS today. Think I have been putting it off a little, but finally sorted out transferring the Bank Account today so the job's done

Would it be wrong of me to delete all telephone numbers off my credit card accounts as whilst I will ring them if absolutely necessary, I would rather they are not calling me - is that very evasive??

So this is a new start now, I have managed for the last three weeks with a debit card and nothing else and it has actually felt refreshing knowing I am spending money that is not on a negative balance. I am also really thinking before I spend anything and this is new territory for me.

Me and Mr T are still having our ups and downs, he is fine one day and then very difficult the next - we might both feel better now the agreement has been sent off.

So the ride starts here, hope it's not too rocky.....
