Hello, all. Hope you're all keeping well. I've not been having a great time of things at the moment. My two months grace seems to have whizzed by without my doing anything productive. My first DMP payment goes out on 1st... I checked my balance with Wonga and it looks like they've started charging again which isn't great news. Things still feel really messy, tbh. Am going to have a sit down tonight and make a list of what's outstanding and maybe do some prioritising but I seem to have lost some of my initial enthusiasm and drive. Anyone else get this??

Hi Sarah. How long do you have to go? Focussing on landmarks, planning budgets and food and thinking about what I will do afterwards keeps me going. DMPs are not easy options. Still better than the alternatives in my opinion. Good luck

Well, five months in and our DMP is ticking along nicely. We have a lot of creditors, most have been absolutely fine, the DCAs have been fine however, Barclays (in their various incarnations) have been a nightmare to deal with and are still charging % on one of the accounts and Virgin MBNA, well, who knows? They said straight away by letter way back when that they wouldn't accept the DMP offers from either of us, they stopped the % and have accepted the payment each month but we've had no further correspondence from the. I guess they'll tell us one day!
It has been a huge relief being on the DMP but blimey, it's been hard work managed on the ££.

Keep on keeping on everyone x

  • It's good to hear everyone is getting on well with the DMP's, it gives me hope. I got my Loan Statement today so I can send the CCCS form off tomorrow and then it is out of my hands

Did everyone feel a bit like they were on a roller coaster when they were in the bit before setting up a DMP? I feel relieved a decision has been made, but still upset and anxious. Saying that though I have today spent my day off printing Credit Card Statements, putting them in a file, entering all the information into Whats The Cost, setting my budget on MS Money and updating my spending diary - I actually want the statements to come now I am that organised.

Fingers crossed it all goes ok. Had a look at MBNA statement today and with the minimum payment I paid off a grand total of 12p last month  yes really, and it's any wonder I can't pay anything off!

Mrs Trouble - the hardest, and most emotional bit, for us was actually facing up to the reality of it all, adding everything up and accepting that we needed a DMP. Once the process started and we began filling in the paperwork and gathering everything up then yes, it was a bit of a rollercoaster - we had days when we felt really more in control and empowered and other days where we beat ourselves up and felt like complete failures. Once the letters to the creditors went out (from us with tiny interim payments) we felt kind of guilty but more in control. When the DMP actually kicked in and the first payment went out, by this time we'd heard back from quite a few creditors by letter and phone, and most were absolutely fine, some were even really pleasant, friendly and helpful, then the rollercoaster feeling calmed right down. Quite quickly we felt absolutely relieved, we know what we need to live on and that the creditors are getting their payments through CCCS, this makes us feel more in control, happier and less stressed than we have been for years.

  • Thanks for the reassurance.

We have both been paid today and seeing the difference a DMP will make to our finances is amazing, today is a good day :)
