Try not to let them get you down - from my lurking it seems to be par for the course. Some stop some don't and it seemd to be rather a rollercoaster.

I really enjoyed your blog - we have a similar DFD and are also in the early stages of a DMP. Best of luck and hope the postie brings something more positive tomorrow.

Thank you Flash-bang, what a lovely thing to say about my blog

I set it up to mainly vent and rant :rotfl: but to also give other people setting out on this road something to read. As you say it is a rollercoaster and everyones experience is different but I hope it's a little useful. I certainly find it therapeutic to write and I also hope to look back on it in years to come and remember how far we've come.

    Onwards and upwards :j

Well we've had 5 acceptances so far. Great but none of the credit cards have stopped interest :( They've all reduced to either 3% or 6% and stopped charges, but no interest freezes.

I'm feeling really peed off about it all tonight. I've written them all (very nice) letters asking them to reconsider the interest rates. I don't understand why they're still charging me, the offer the CCCS made isn't much less than what they were getting anyway (our CCCS payment is just over £1k a month).

One credit card refused our offer and it was literally a couple of quid under the contractual payment  and they're going to default us.

Sorry to rant on here. I've managed to stay upbeat so far but it's all getting me down tonight :(

I think the answer's in your post.

It seems to be that the nearer you are to the minimum payments required, the more likely they'll carry on applying some amount of interest.

    Just an observation!

Thanks for the reply ianmak. I was wondering if it was to do with our payments. Completely sucks they've not stopped interest, I hope it doesn't push our DFD too far back.

Fingers crossed they'll reconsider once I've written (although I very much doubt it).

  • Yeah, that could be an issue I guess. But some of our payments are close to the amount owed and they've still stopped % but as I said above, it did take a wee while.

    Hi me again

    Bit of a silly question.

Me and OH have got an appointment tomorrow with RBS to open an account. (we don't owe them any money and apart from Lloyds and bank of scotland their the only other bank where I live)

They've asked me to bring in our most recent statement from Lloyds.

    Why?

I've been with Lloyds since I was 8 and have'nt had an account with anyone else so i know nothing about opening a new account :o

Possibly to prove your address? When we opened our new accounts with NatWest we had to bring ID (we took passports) and proof of address. This could be a utility bill, bank statement etc. We took a mortgage statement.

If they've not asked for anything else to prove your address then that'll probably be why. Although I'm obviously not 100% certain of that, but it seems the most obvious to me.

    Hi All,

I have had my 'lightbulb moment' after receiving a letter from MBNA about the increase in minimum payments from 1st April.

I plucked up the courage to call MBNA who were actually very sympathetic and suggested a DMP to reduce my payments. I have read as much as I can about the plans.

My question is I have an overdraft of £2000 with my bank (I don't dip into it, it is there purely as a "just in case measure" as I am a carer to my elderly parents). If I enter a DMP with MBNA will my current bank (not affiliated with MBNA) withdraw my overdraft, as in will MBNA inform them that I have entered into a plan?

Any advice would be much appreciated (apart from the non-sympathetic peeps on the forum).

    Many Thanks

I would really appreciate some advice as I am now confused. As you can see I posted this on 11 February 2011 and after receiving a response on the fourum that entering a payment plan only with MBNA will definitely affect my credit score I phoned them back on the same day and asked them to cancel this arrangement with immediate affect. The gentleman who I spoke to said that there were no notes on my file about an arrangement (which I thought was very strange) but he assured me that I had not been put forward to enter an arrangement. On Saturday I received a letter from MBNA dated 23 Feb stating that I was now in arrangement with them. I phoned back this morning and asked them how could this be. They denied that I had phoned them back stating that there was no 'footprint' on my file that I had spoken to anyone.

I complained and they said that I would now have to carry on with the arrangement and that the decision could not be reversed.

Fuming, I phoned them back again, this time speaking to a different agent who confirmed that I DID speak to a representative at 4:23pm on 18 February asking for a stop to the arrangement.

I am so worried that their mistake will affect my credit rating for the next 6 years. They are holding a meeting tomorrow about this, but I don't trust them as each agent seems to have a different set of notes in front of them?

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. I am not sure what to do next and am panicking.

I'm not an expert but I think the only way you'd get anything put onto your credit file for 6 years is if MBNA issued you with a default. You don't get defaults autmoatically by entering into a payment plan (at least I don't think, we're in payment plans with all our creditors and only 2 have told us we've got a default).

It might be worth checking to see if they have issued a Default. For us MBNA agreed our payment plan but have'nt given us a default, but 2 other creditors have.

Sorry I can't be more help. I hope you get it resolved today.

  • Hi, they haven't issued me with a default as I am keeping on top of payments. I'm just wondering why they have entered me into the DMP when I changed my mind on the same day and they are now telling me that they cannot reverse the DMP. Surely they would prefer to be paid more each month?

They asked me to take in proof of address and the bank statement so i'm guessing it's not for the address.
