just received email from CCCS advising it will take 14 working days to set up our dmp which is fab. But I dont know what to do about paying our creditors in December. CCCS advised making a token payment of as little as £1 but I dont feel comfortable going that low.
I am wondering now if our dmp wont start until the 1st January or something, I just want to get things sorted.
How low would you guys go in making token payments just whilst a dmp is being set up? I am also getting fed up now with all the calls from Barclaycard, they are now calling me up to 7 times a day and they call as bizarre times over the weekends as well.
Has anyone got a template of a letter that I could send?

Make token payments of £1 or £2 per creditor per month until the DMP is setup.
The issue here is that if you give each say, £10 and the DMP works out that one creditor receives £4, then they're gonna ask why you can't afford the £10 every month. Does that make sense?
Have a look on the National Debtline website, there maybe a template there.
I presume you haven't answered the phone to them yet? If you do, explain your starting a DMP and that should put a hold on calls for a week or so.DMP mutual support thread No: 2430 -
jasper i think general advice is just make a token payment. As ian says if you pay say £30 and then cccs tell them its £20 you have little chance from the off

 Having a major wobble today, I rang CCCS for a review and my payment has more than doubled.
I'm on a joint DMP with the OH, and I'm not working but he is. However his wage varies massively from month to month so when we sent up they took an average from 6 months so we always kind of muddled through. But this time they would only take three months to work out the average, and it's worked out more towards the higher end than the average if you see what I mean.
I was panicking when I was on the phone about the massive rise in the payment but the woman I was talking to was having none of it - said I had to see how we find it before they can look at it again.
Is there anyone else out there that doesn't have a set wage but is on a DMP?0 -
Hi new beginning i think i will experience same as you my wages change monthly in the winter m onths i earn really well but from april through to september is pretty poor.
we have just sighned the authority to act with payplan have cancelled direct debits to creditors will be making token payments of £1 to each this makes me feel really bad but have to try and do it,the wife was having a real worry today i think its anticipating loads of phonecalls and letters shes worried if they dont accept the dmp what will happen next.
But as i explained to her we have to do something because were in it too deep.
we now have a safe account with barclays i have been paid today and the wife will be on tuesday so will be moving most available money into new account still dont know if i should pull all money available out as im overdrawn always anyway.
Regarding my other post about the AA taking nearly £200 off me it appears it was my fault when we moved house i presumed that the membership would end but they said i ticked a box to automatically renew every year it cant be cancelled now till next october this has been going on now for nearly seven years cant believe i didnt realise.
anyway life goes on,i will win in the end i will be debt free eventually.
if it wasnt for the folks on here we would be some very unhappy people many thanks to everyone.0 -
Have you included the Overdraft in with the DMP (You should have), as whatever you put down as being the amount owed, is how you should leave the account.DMP mutual support thread No: 2430

Hi everyone!
Hoping you can help me with a wobble. I started my DMP with CCCS back at the beginning of September. I had a couple of phonecalls and letters to start with but all seemed to be ok.
Of my 7 creditors, MBNA have agreed to reduce interest and accepted the DMP - no problems there. All the others, who have been quiet up to now, have all suddenly started kicking off. I've had default notices from Lloyds, Littlewoods, Egg and Barclays in the last week. Ikea constantly kept phoning me at work until I answered and told them to check their records as I informed them of the DMP at the beginning and they were asking why a payment was 'late' (the only reason it was late was because CCCS pay on the 25th of the month and they were expecting it on an earlier date if I hadn't been on the DMP). They were quite nice however and updated my records so I don't get more calls.
I was ok about the letters until this evening. CCCS had advised me that I don't need to do anything unless the letters changed and I started getting CCJ's or something along those lines. I'm really scared now though. I thought that everything was moving along ok and suddenly all the defaults arrive at once.
Has anyone else been here? Lloyds are asking for £450 by the 13th December or they will take further action. I obviously won't be paying them that as it would jeapodise my DMP, but it's worrying me.

Defaults are all part of the DMP I'm afraid as effectively you've defaulted on your contractual payment. Now lots of us would see that as being a good thing, as sometimes the creditor will stop interest, or sell the debt onto a DCA, who normally would stop interest.
The Default stays on your Credit File for 6 years, which will affect your future requests for Credit - But would you want any more?
However, please someone come along and agree or disagree with me!DMP mutual support thread No: 2430 -
Thanks ianmak
I was fully expecting this but was hoping that I might get away without this many defaults - esp seeing as MBNA accepted so quickly. I think its just getting them all at once.
You're quite right - I definately don't want any more credit after this!! I'm in a good position as despite having 18k debt, all I have of any value is my car - and that's a cheap and cheerful that is decreasing in value every year! No mortgage or anything like that to worry about so I'm glad I did this now rather than in a few years when I might have added a mortgage to the problem.
I was getting into a panic imagining how I was going to take time off work to go to court etc (yes, my mind had gone that far!!) without anyone finding out!!
My biggest worry tbh is renting. We want to move next year as we are a married couple living in a house share (not ideal) and want to start thinking about having a family in a couple of years (which is what prompted me to do the dmp - my mothering instincts have kicked in and the thought of my future child having a more secure childhood is what keeps me going at this!). My husband has debt too but hopefully his situation is about to improve by the new year, so he didn't want to go the dmp route himself at the moment. As long as one of us is kind of ok with our credit score, would that mean that we could still enter into a new rental agreement?
We're not with an agency at the moment - it's a private landlord. I'm also wondering if when I'm credit checked, if I explain that my defaults are due to a dmp (being sensible really!) that they might look on this more favourably? In reality I would say I'm a safer bet as I've acknowledged my debt, am dealing with it, and have a set budget to live on. Has anyone else tried to rent in the middle of a dmp?I like pigs. I sent this one in September and all calls stopped immediately:
Company Name
Road
Town
City / County
Postcode
Dear Sirs,
Harassment by telephone
Account Number: XXXXXXX
I am writing in relation to the quantity and frequency of telephone calls that I have received from your company, which I deem to be personally harassing.
I have verbally requested that these stop, but I am still receiving calls. (Delete if necessary)
I now require all further correspondence from your company to be made in writing only.
I am of the view that your continued harassment of me by telephone puts you in breach of The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, and the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
If you continue to harass me by telephone, you will also be in breach of the Communications Act (2003) s.127 and I will report you to OFCOM, Trading Standards and The Office of Fair Trading, meaning that you will be liable to a substantial fine.
Please treat this also as a formal complaint, and send me a copy of your company complaints procedure.
Be advised that any further telephone calls from your company will be recorded. (**Even if you don‘t yet have recording equipment!!**)
Yours faithfully,
(type don't sign)
thanks all
Regarding your token payment, your predators cant have what you havent got. Send the £, at least you are acknowledging your debt whilst awaiting the outcome of determination by CCCS.
