If it happens again and they catch you on the back foot then if anything you have my number don't you?

Forgot to thank you for the offer, Niddy.

If I get a more stroppy one the next time you may well get a phone call!!!

Mighty Mouseanne, we'll need to get you a red cape to wear if you're going to keep throwing your weight around like that and scaring away the bad guys.

You shouldn't be getting any more doorstep visits - not after Niddy's through with them.

They are required to give you advance notice of any visit.
Section 2.12 (unfair business parctices) of the OFT debt collection guidelines:
    g. not giving adequate notice of the time and date of a visit
Obviously a few hours notice is not what should have been given here.

Not sure what letters you have already sent to them, but to stop visits, we usually recommend something like
Please note that I am only prepared to communicate with you in writing. Should it be your intention to arrange a "doorstep call", please remember that there is only an implied license under English Common Law for certain people to visit me on my property without express permission; the postman and people asking for directions etc (Armstrong v. Sheppard and Short Ltd [1959] 2 Q.B. per Lord Evershed M.R.).

Please therefore take note that, I revoke license under English Common Law for you, or your representatives to visit me at my property and if you do so without my permission, you will then be liable to damages for a tort of trespass. You would also be conspiring in a trespass if you sent someone to visit me nevertheless.

You know how to deal with them and have experience in dealing with them if anyone does visit. This should hopefully not happen again once you send something like the above. I'm sure Niddy will sort it out for you though.

Sorry i've not been posting since your 'move', but i have been reading (as much as i can). Page 51 already??? Never known anyone to need to start a new thread every month ;)

Hope everyone else is doing okay and good luck with the job hunting those who are looking.

Well done you Ann. That must have been awful for you. I thought doorstep people were ficticious characters to frighten people into paying, I didn't realise they were real people!

I'm sure Niddy will sort this for you as he says, but I'm glad you were able to deal with the situation effectively :j

    Hello all,

Just to report that, while I was in the middle of writing the "debt sold whilst in dispute" letter I actually had a doorstep visit - about 15 minutes ago!

I did answer the door and bloke was absolutely huge! Wearing a shirt with a "resolvecall" logo - as if I had any doubt! And he had a clipboard!

Anyway, I put on my best assertive voice and told him that I did not want to discuss this matter on the doorstep and that the account was in dispute! He just said "OK" - and that he was obliged to give me the notice telling me about my arrears!

I am still shaking while I type this - but at least I know what it feels like!

Question is, do I still send the "account sold...." letter or is there something stronger I can use? Considering that the notification arrived after 4 p.m. yesterday and the bloke turned up at 12:45 doesn't exactly give much time to pay them! Not that I had any intention of doing that!

Overall, I think I am quite pleased at the way I acted - still can't get over how big he was!

    OMG Ann

So sorry to hear that, and what a shock for you.

I feel so mad hearing this......, now that Niddy is aware, I'm sure all will be resolved soon honey. Chin up sweetheart.;)XXX

    Good afternoon everyone.

Mum is having her new replacement washing machine delivered next Tuesday, she had a choice of makes and she have chosen Hotpoint.:j
When the guy came out yesterday as they do (insurance), he was shocked to see the machine , and said mum was very brave indeed.;)

    Hi George,

Thanks for this - and good to hear from you!

I still can't believe how I managed to deal with him - and throwing my weight about is quite a laugh - as I am quite small and, although not as thin as I would like to be, not overweight either! He was ENORMOUS!

I am wondering whether it is the fact that I was all assertive and knowledgeable (totally thanks to my friends on here!) which made him back off! My original intention if faced with this sort of thing would be to pretend to be a "little old lady"! However, when actually faced with it I just reacted there and then!

And now I can't stop talking about it on here!

    Thanks Di,

It is knowing everyone on here is supporting me which enables me to cope!
