A quick question - if you buy the all in one tablets do you still have to put salt and rinse aid in? We got a slimline dishwasher at the weekend and I'm soo confused by all the stuff you can buy!!

    I've been Money Tipped!
While I appreciate this thread is a couple of months old and I haven't even read the OP :o, I just need to say that I have a friend who advises all newly weds to get a dishwasher as it negates lots of fights.

We've washed up for the 11 years of our marriage and talked to each other when we've felt the other isn't pulling their weight with the task! The washing up isn't a problem, the communication and control is!!!!!

dunno how u feel with the kid situation but in my opinion its more work

you still need to spend time scraping plates, then rinsing them under water, then loading dishwasher, then putting it on, then waiting for them too cool down to put away, then you need to dry the ones that are still yet, then you need to put them away

plus you then have the dishes that are not dishwasher safe so you need to go and do them

you also have cost of buying dishwasher, any maintenance care/plan, if it breakdowns, the electric for it, the cleaning of it inside and out, the cost of tablets and cleaners for it

in my opinion i hate them

i used to have one now no longer and its sooooooooooo much better without

be a mse and use hot water and fairy liquid

i have previously had occasions where a lot of dishes break in dishwasher 2

Speaking personally, I decided to buy a dishwasher when I had 5 that did not work!!!

I was commuting to London 5 days a week ... leaving at home OH (who was, admittedly Not Well) plus 4 offspring - ranging from 7 to 17 years. By purchasing a dishwasher, it meant that even 7 yo plus OH (NW) could be programmed into putting their dishes into the said dishwasher - and I would come home to a clean sink :)!

Fast forward 25 years - and I still decided that in our new (smalle) kitchen that we would have a dishwasher :D:D:D

I was advised by a dishwasher repair man that if you live in a hard water area (which I do) then you still need to put salt in even if you use the all in one tablets.

We have a BOSCH XXX and its brilliant. We've had it for about 3yrs and I couldn't do without it. There are 4 in our family and it goes on roughly every other day. Its a full size one. We all put our own plates, bowls, cups etc in and me or hubby switch it on when full. My 9yr old DS unloads it, but I do the wine glasses and the very sharp knives! Would recomend one but only the full size, my friend has a slimline one and she can't fit larger things in, I think she's actually given up using it!

you still need to spend time scraping plates,
But you have to do this however you wash them

    then rinsing them under water,
    Never do this

    then loading dishwasher,
Load as I go, very handy keeps the kitchen clear while working in it:D

    then putting it on,
With adding tablet, 3 seconds max!

then waiting for them too cool down to put away,
Don't empty straight away, its not going anywhere & empty straight to cupboards, or just load them into cupboards hot, use cupboards nearest DW for crockery & its really quick & easy.

then you need to dry the ones that are still yet, then you need to put them away
Modern DWs dry really well, this isn't a problem.

plus you then have the dishes that are not dishwasher safe so you need to go and do them
Only buy DW safe crockery, most is now anyway.

you also have cost of buying dishwasher, any maintenance care/plan, if it breakdowns, the electric for it, the cleaning of it inside and out, the cost of tablets and cleaners for it
It doesn't really cost anything to clean, rinse the filter after dumping any matter in the bin & give it a wipe around.
If you are washing by hand you still have to pay to heat the water & for the Fairy.

in my opinion i hate them

i used to have one now no longer and its sooooooooooo much better without

be a mse and use hot water and fairy liquid

i have previously had occasions where a lot of dishes break in dishwasher 2

For me its worth the outlay & the maintenance/care plan:D
I would let the tumble dryer go first:D

I don't know what dishwasher you used but my dishes are always dry and I have never had any broken ones.

Tried to do without one once - NEVER again!!

Have you cleaned it out? I occasionally find that my dishes don't get properly clean. I just clean out the machine and it is good as new:D

I love my dishwasher, if it broke i would replace it straight away:p
