bought this house over 6 years ago and it came with a NEFF dishwasher which I reckon was around 2 years old at that point. We have had it repaired once - at a cost of £149 to replace with a genuine NEFF part - and other than that, it works perfectly. Would certainly recommend it.

Miele seems very popular - I had a Miele washing machine which only lasted me 5 years. I was very, very disappointed as it cost a fortune compared with previous washing machines which lived similar lives. Just out of warranty I had to get a new heating element at a ridiculous cost and then 6 months later something went wrong in the motherboard (apparently) and even the miele engineer said it wasn't worth fixing! Just my experience with them - I certainly wouldn't buy one again.

For years I had a dishwasher, but due to change of circumstances I haven't had one for nearly 18 months. I hate washing up and I finally decided I could afford one again so its coming on Saturday . Yippee!!!!!

Could use a recommendation for dishwasher detergent etc though, as the last few years I was living abroad so the brands all different. Are any of the store brands any good?

Am using Asda tablets at the moment - no problems. Also use Morrisons sometimes and they are also fine. Far cheaper than teh branded ones although they are often on offer so it's worth a look when shopping.

totally, totally get a dishwasher. reduces aging on your hands too!

rubber gloves and/or hand cream are cheaper - although I do love my dishwasher!

I'm so jealous. I've wanted one since I was a little girl but we REALLY don't have room for one. When I first bought the house I did seriously consider whether I wanted to have a dishwasher but no washing machine but I think the thought of handwashing clothes is slightly worse than doing the dishes (only just, mind :o)

you could take the clothes to the launderette, doesn't work with dishes though!

When I had my kitchen done I had room for a tumble dryer OR a dishwasher and went for the dishwasher. I chose the dishwasher and have never regretted it. I take towels and bedding to the launderette to dry occasionally in the winter, which is no hardship. I love my dishwasher!

I haven't used them myself yet, but the Aldi ones have done well in surveys. I always buy own brand ones unless the branded ones are on an offer that makes them cheaper. Never had any disasters.

Depends if you are in a hard water area or not Karen, for example there is NO POINT in me in london using FINISH, although fairy are OK. I have MUCH better results with powder. I was fortunate enough to get a massive box of finish professional powder and it is superb, never a problem with it at all. Ive also been impressed with i think they are called Clean/Easy,Icelands cheapo versions, a lOT better than finish tabls for me, but again depends where you are and what your water is like I think.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

My parents have had dishwashers for years. Theirs broke down earlier this year and they couldn't afford to replace it. (their washing machine had broke too and they'd just replaced that) Mum found that by washing everything by hand, she lost a lot of space on the worktop. (for baking, dishing up dinner, etc)

  • We bought a Currys own brand end-of-line £99 bargain dishwasher as an impulse buy last year after over thirty-five years without one. We bought it mainly because when we are in the UK and sharing the house with son, girlfriend and lodger it only ever seemed to be us who tackled the mounds of washing up.

Never looked back, one of the best things we have ever bought.

We use whichever brand is on special offer and then stock up. They all work as well as each other for our purposes.

If you start getting food left on the plates check the filters as it's far more likely to be that.
