Happy new study area. The sun was shining here this morning but the rain clouds are rolling in across the valley, I am watching from my study area (when I should be working) I am catching your phditis I think.
Fay, I have visions of the chooks in your utility area before too long! Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
Garage just phoned - £200! Ouch. But new brake pads and disks and roll bars (or something). And the good news is - it's budgeted for :j (Although my half will have to wait til next week for payday - I had £100 budgeted for the MOT but had to spend it on the fe*kin alternator a couple of weeks ago )
So far in 6 weeks this car has cost us £1000 to buy, £120 for a new alternator, £80 for a service, and £200 for an MOT (which doesn't even *need* doing til the beginning of November  Hmm. It's also had to be rescued by the RAC once in that time too. I'm questioning the wisdom of scrapping our cheery old van - although it regularly broke down, it rarely cost us this much! :rotfl: (usually because it got fixed with gaffa tape...)
Hey ho, at least it's in the budget and it's safe (that's what I keep telling myself anyway!). Going to pick it up now, back in a bit...0 -
Right. Am back having had a productive afternoon and a positive rethink on the car :j
Our budget for buying a new car was £2000. We ended up not finding one that suited all the conditions we wanted if we were going to pay that much for within our budget. However, we did find one for £1000, a bit older, but full service history, good condition etc, 9 months tax. Then we managed to spend £400 on it in 6 weeks.
SO - instead of thinking of it like that, I'm treating it as if we bought it for £1400, with a full years MOT, recent service, new alternator, new brake disks/pads and roll bars. i would have been happy to pay that much for a car with all those things, and that's now what I've got - so positive thinking all round :T
(beats getting annoyed about it anyway! :rotfl:)
well, here i am alone again, mr daffs just gone out, mate due back in a bit. today i've taken the car for MOT, visited 3 libraries, done a few errands, walked home from the garage (and back again to collect car - round trip of about 6 miles). Have got bread in the machine. I've read 'The Philosophies of Science' (some of it anyway! :rotfl:) and now understand what Realism is - thanks to my snazzy new mind mapMy bag is all packed for my training course tomorrow - i'm leaving the house at 6.30am
Er, this kind of seems like the ideal opportunity to do Shred Day 25!
I'm trying to think of an excuseI walked 6 miles today? (feeble excuse!) Mate may come back at any minute? (he doesn't finish work til 8.30, and is 10 miles away - on public transport). I can't be bothered?? :rotfl:
Guess I'd best get on with it then!
Then a shower so I don't have to do it at stupid-o-clock in the morning, and then inventing a spreadsheet of van expenses/monthly savings, and figuring out what to give Mr Daffs.
£265 rent - £153 tax refund = £112 to transfer for rent (and £153 to my savings account)
THEN: £160 to Mr Daffs' other account to pay off what I owe him (leaving £100 to be paid when I get paid next Thursday)
THEN: Mr Daffs paid all £200 for the car today, so I owe him £100 for that - so added to the £112 rent payment makes £212
Actually, not entirely sure why I needed to figure that out right now - I won't be paying any of it til I get paid on Thursday! :rotfl: I think my head was just getting in a little muddle knowing there were a few things to go in and out of various places
(have I wasted enough time to justify not Shredding yet?? :rotfl:)0 -

Of course you have wasted enough time, just read another book and do a mindmap.6 mile hikes in one day is exercise enough for one personSome days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Thanks cherisong :rotfl:
In fact, I SO much didn't want to Shred that I went out for a run instead to avoid it :rotfl: :rotfl: I actually like running in the dark and the cold and the rain, feels all rather adventurous somehow :rotfl: Only 20 mins, but I actually RAN all of it (I generally run/walk but running felt right tonight!)Feeling VERY pleased with myself
And much in need of a shower

Wow! I like the thinking on the car, thats really sensible. I like the thinking on Shred and running just as much, but for entirely different reasons
I think the official term is, "you nutter" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Brill!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Evening all!
Well, I am utterly EXHAUSTED and have had the MOST EXCELLENT DAY! :T Really interesting and inspiring training course, excellent trainer, and lovely other people on course (rubbish lunch though :rotfl:). And there were geese outside the window - geese! :rotfl: Anyway, all fired up now :T
However, left the house at 6.30am and didn't get back til gone 7 - so quite tired (although actually the same as a normal working day for me - but training days take it out of you more, don't you think??). Off to Doncaster for another one tomorrow!
Not doing anything tonight. Looking after poor old Mr DAffs who spent 3.5 HOURS stuck in a traffic jam on the M18 this afternoon (should have taken 40 mins!). So both of us are fit for nowt. Pancakes and tea consumed thoughJust lounging on the sofa ambling through other people's diaries and having a catch up
