    Right then...

Cherisong, I have been looking at MG's challenges :T Great fun, and very revealing. I should probably stress that these were things I was just overwhelmed about *today* (being hormonal and grumpy) - however, they are things that I regularly get grumpy about when I'm hormonal, so are probably significant :o

We did in fact tackle the space issue first, just as you suggested, without having read what you said :rotfl: Great minds think alike :T We went upstairs, and both put all our clothes away (well, Mr Daffs threw his all into the bottom of the wardrobe, but at least they're not all over the rocking chair any more! :rotfl: I also put stuff away off the airer, we emptied the bin, swept the floor, and cleared the desk/dressing table, and put a stool back in there, and found a lamp. I'm all set up in there now to work at the desk, and later I'll pick a few flowers from the garden. I can see nicely out of the window there too :D Might take a picture of it tomorrow when I've got my flowers :T

THEN, feeling all enthused, I decided to tackle an annoying DIY job that's been bugging me for months - painting over the re-plastering. Quite a small area, but above the window, and the paper had been just stapled back on temporarily :o The wall is dark red s it's really obvious too. The curtain rails weren't put back properly, held on with hair ties, and the whole thing was completely cobwebby and grim.

So I took the curtains down, and removed the lining, which is like something out of an ancient and neglected country mansion :rotfl: Red velvet curtains, lining just rips at the slightest touch cos it's so old and sun-worn :o So I threw it away, and later will hunt upstairs through our enormous stash of velvet curtains (!) either for some whole red curtains, or for some lining I can pinch :T

Peeled the paper off properly, and painted the whole area with watered down PVA :T Will leave it til tomorrow now, then glue the paper back, then paint the plaster red :T Then I'll put the curtain rail up PROPERLY with screws and everything, then my newly lined curtains :T

Then all I'll need to do is re-line the other set of curtains (!) and we're laughing!

Sorry, went into huge unnecessary detail there, I'm just so excited that this thing that's been annoying me for months will be fixed by tomorrow with virtually no effort whatsoever! :rotfl: I am a silly sausage sometimes! :rotfl:

Decided to have tea with Mr Daffs, and run when he goes out later, so that's the exercise sorted, and the space, and I've booked the car in the garage, so there's only, hang on, what else was it that I was annoyed about? :rotfl: Ah yes, the PhD! :rotfl: Well, now I've got my space to work, I've got another 3x15 min slots to do today (which I'll do when Mr Daffs has gone out). And I'm going to get up and start again at 7am tomorrow, I really enjoyed it today, and it felt great to have time in the late afternoon without fussing that I hadn't done enough :T

Right, will stop rambling now and go and dig out some curtain lining! :T

Isn't it just Karmacat! Amazing what you can do when you get up and do one thing - somehow all seems to spiral on from there sometimes doesn't it? Sounds like your decluttering has had a similar effect and been very positive for you!

Helped mate carry his stuff upstairs (actually, it's not much, and it's all gone into the attic with not too much bother apart from a couple of boxes of books on the landing, so all that fussing about the kitchen/living room was for nowt :rotfl:). Dug through the curtains, nothing suitable, so tomorrow (in PhD break time!) I'll pop either to the charity shops for some white sheets, or down to the fabric shop for some lining material. What will be cheaper do you think?? Then that'll be a nice evening project tomorrow when I'm here on my own :T

Ooh, all fired up now, what's next??? :rotfl:

Yep, my decluttering was exactly that. What do I want to live in? Do I want to pay for the space that this book occupies? Do I want it in my face in my living room? Now that I'm free (freer) how shall I use this time/this space - its freed me up to be social again, to meet the world. I used to have such a thing about noise that I could hear when I was in the house, and tho I still would prefer a detached house, I don't care now about hearing neighbours or noise from the street. If it stopped me sleeping, of course, that would be different - but, I'm not using my house to hide any more, so I don't have any issue with hearing other people. And if *that* isn't a step forward, I don't know what is

:j:j the power of movement certainly is a wonderful thing :j:j

Well done to you. Know exactly what you mean about being hormonal and things worrying you just for today (but really they just come out today) because that is exactly what happens with me. I feel podgy which makes me grumpy which makes me negative, which makes me look for things to bother me, which makes me moan to OH, which makes him be all nice to me, which makes me feel rubbish for being grumpy, negative and moany :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Oh to be a man!!!!!

I would suggest looking in the charity shops for some similar sized curtains and taking the linings out of those which would probably work out cheaper than buying them in the fabric shop I should expect. I dont know what the shops are like near to you but around here there are always lots of old curtains for sale, I just never like the material but the linings are usually pretty good.

I was just thinking of cheap white sheets to turn into curtain linings cherisong! Curtains here in charity shops tend to go for about £7 a pair, even if they're hideous, and we've got two quite big windows to cover. Will have a think and a measure - would probably need 4 sheets (usually about £1-2 each), so that wouldn't be as bad... However, we also have a rather cheery and cheap fabric shop, so curtain lining material might be quite cheap too. Will investigate. Will also depend on where else I'm going, need to pop and get PVA and a new van key, and they're all in different directions! :rotfl:

Had a lovely productive evening on top of a mostly cheerily productive day :T Even got Day 24 of Shred done! :T :T :T And just curled up on the sofa, and I can hear the car pulling up outside, so I shall toddle off for a hot chocolate and an early night adn see you al bright and early in the morning :T :T
  • Well done on day 24..i have only managed one so far, and i love it..must get better. :(

I think if you are lining curtains, then have a look on carboots- often cheaper than charity shops. :)

what about cheap fleece blankets? Is the lining just for show or did you want it to keep them warm too? Sheets might not do the trick if that is the case.

    Have a good sleep

The curtains are thick velvet anyway, so there isn't really an issue with keeping them warm - and it's not really a cold room. But I might do that elsewhere.... :)

BOB - I haven't been to a car boot forever, but funnily enough there is one here on Saturday! :T Might have a mooch round there :T Aiming to stick the wallpaper back on this morning, then paint the plastered bit this afternoon, so curtains probably will have to wait til tomorrow anyway.

As for Shred, I didn't do all mine in one go, have had plenty of days off in between, so hang in there! :rotfl:

Up bright and early (ish) again today for a day of PhD :T The sun really is gorgeous at this time of day, don't know why I don't get up this early more often! :rotfl:
