Ooh, looking forward to seeing your table Fay!! :j :j
I'm stopping work now :j have crossed a few bits off my little list, made a few notes for the rest of the week, and altogether feel like I've achieved something! I've done 3 hours work (it's taken me about 6 hours :rotfl:) which ain't too bad (not too good either, mind you)
Anyway, I'm off to do some cheery things now involving glue, a spade, the compost bin, an old carry mat, the kettle, a plastic knife, a tude of silicone sealant, lots of pictures of vegetables, and several knitting needles :j :j
(not all in that order, and not all together!)
Back later

:jThanks everyone. I'm quite shocked to have finished a project so quickly. I bought the fabric last weekend and they're on the chairs now!! I was quite frugal in that I cut up an old mattress pad thing which i had on my bed in my old flat but was for a single so no use now. I probably spent £7-8 on fabric and ribbons to make them but I've tons left over so can use that for other projects
I'm looking forward to seeing your table too Fay!
KC - they're not sequinned, think the light just caught them. The diagonal cross is a white fabric with a small strawberry print with diagonal red crosses made out of red grosgrain ribbon. Then the background and big red cross is made of gingham.
I've got four dining room chairs that need seat pads so that will be my next project. I've some fab batik fabric from Bali so will use that.
Cheery - completely intrigued at your list of things ..... *wonders furiously how they all fit together!***
On other news, may have found a lodger for my spare room. Which wasn't intentional but might grab the opportunity....I've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills

Well done Cheery, can I ask? Well I am going to anyway, do you do your PHD every day or is it that you end up doing a bit every day. I only ask because it seemed a shame that you missed out on going out with Mr Daffs. Also I know absolutely nothing about degrees, phds and anything that requires lots of intelligent musings. When is it due to be finished?
makeup - gorgeous cushions. Do any of you go into the shabby chic thread. There are some amazing projects on there. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
I'm well impressed at your cushions makeup - and that you finished them so quickly! :j you'll have to finish the dining room ones so we can see those too! :j lodger sounds intriguing! Is it someone you know? I guess the money will come in handy - how do you feel about sharing your new flat??
Cherisong, you ask anything you like! I'll probably answerHmm - PhD - hmm. It works more like a job than a degree. I had 3 years funding (plus 1 year at the beginning for an MA too), and it was full time (supposedly with 8 weeks holiday). Don't get university holidays (unless you just don't go in...), and don't have taught classes, it's all your own research (rather difficult to motivate!)
I did my 3 years (4 if you count the MA), then had to have a year out for various reasons (during which time I worked 2 days a week as a PA to a disabled woman, and tried to do a bit of PhD the rest of the time). Then I went back and did another year, also working 2 days a week (my funding ran out by this point). Then I submitted the whole thing last October, was examined in December - and they told me it wasn't good enough and I had to spend another year on it
So here I am, 6.5 months in, and still tearing my hair out. I work 2 days a week in a different job now, and the idea is that I do those two days at work, then Wed-Fri on PhD. However - that generally relies on me actually *doing* the PhD Wed-Fri, which often I don't manage, and this week I didn't at all cos it was Mr Daffs' birthday and I was preparing and doing cheery thingsSo here I am working at the weekend.
Because I don't have that much time left (got til the end of Jan, although I'd LOVE to get it done before Christmas), I'm figuring it's best to work when inspiration strikes (if ever!), and I have a timetable that I try to stick to - but blatantly don't
The whole thing has been a complete ludicrous fiasco, I would definitely NOT recommend one to anyone except the most highly disciplined person ever! I'm thoroughly sick of the subject and the entire thing, couldn't care less what anyone thinks about it, the research I did in 2005 - and now I'd do it completely differently, but I have to write it up as I did it, and justify what I did, even though I now think it was all nonsense. Can you tell I'm finding it quite difficult!
I've considered SO many times just walking away... but after 7 years (!) it seems rather daft! So I shall soldier on, one day become Dr Daffs, hopefully have my first Christmas free from it this year (!), and then never have to thin about the damn thing ever again! :j
Sorry - did that answer your question?? :rotfl:
Anyway, just done DAY 14 of Shred! :j :j Worn out now! :rotfl:
oh, and the big list of things? I took the spade and dug around in the compost bin, trying to see if any of it turned into compost yet - some of it is looking nicely brown and crumbly! :j but there's still plenty of bits in it too, so I just moved it round a bit. I didn't actually do anything with the carry mat - Mr Daffs made it into window blinds for the new van :j Then I stuck lots of pictures of vegetables onto the old CD case thing that I keep my seed packets in with the glue (pics to follow, it looks fab!!) Then I used the plastic knife to scrape the last of the old sealant from round the side of the bath. Haven't got round to putting the new stuff on yet. And the knitting needles are making the sleeve of my cardi! Which I'll do later tonight
Oh, and I made a cup of tea with the kettle - of course - what else?? :rotfl:
(sorry, that was a bit waffly!) :rotfl:0 -

It sounds as I imagined. I dont think I have met anybody yet who enjoys doing a PHD!

Ooh, Cheery, that sounds awful. I totally sympathise and know I would be equally awful at getting my head down to do a PhD.
Still only a few months to go and then you'll be done and dusted and you can happily go about as Dr Daffs with none of this nonsense to worry about. Keep your eye on the prize and all that.
Cherisong - no, haven't but shall. I've got some fab books (one as a housewarming gift...my friends know me well) which I get ideas from and I'm also a fiend for the interiors mags. The cushions came out of Your Home which is £1.99 so nearly half the price of the others. Although I am doing a trial thing of ideal home mag for £3 for 4 issues.I've got my own flat :j:j

Just trying an experiment, cos I've never managed to do this before...
Would you like to see a picture of my cheery camper van bunting?? (don't get excited, it's not actually *in* the camper van!) :rotfl:0
