    Hooray! :j:beer::j:beer::j

    Just checked out costs for the actual trains I've been getting and booking in advance...

    ... it's £1.25 less each journey, which is £2.50 less each week, which is £12.50 less each month! (I always budget for 5 week months, regardless of whether it is one)

    :money:

    Hooray! And put £25 rather than £24 initially because I budget for getting the 50p bus home from the station - but I've actually cycled/walked once a week and got the bus the other day - saving another £2.50 a month! :money: And if I manage to cycle the other day (more of a rush cos have to go out), then that's ANOTHER £2.50 a month! :j:j

    Ooh, that feels much better already - thanks girls! :rotfl::T

    Excellent! Thats the thing with conservative budgetting - after a while, you have to tweak it to reflect reality, otherwise you could end up throwing it away. Good for you :)

    I didn't realise you'd only had 2 classes with the bloke, Daffs - you're right, its not many. Just check it out, I guess.
    2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Hooray - and every little counts right?

    Orkney oatcakes are indeed the only kind of cakes I like.

    Checking out travel here for heading sooth next week - doing the whole fly/or do we drive thing. I'm travelling back up with OH so in all probability it means trying to leave hte car here

    Whilst I love flying *very ungreen I suppose* my argument is that its actually public transport up here - (shoddy argument) and if I can take any form of public transport which means I don't use my car with only me or me+DD in it then its one less thing emitting carbon IYSWIM.

    Costing it all as I go right now - all the boring facts and figures plonked into my own diary!
    Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there. :beer:
    Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
    minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:
    :money:Sleeves up folks.:money:

    It *is* public transport up there, isn't it? I remember seeing people who'd been on "day trip" vouchers from the NHS so they could go to outpatients at their hospital! And you were saying that otherwise, it would be two days of school missed for DD.... its a compromise I guess, Fay.

    Sounds well expensive Fay! You're right though, 2 days of school probably is a little cheeky... Hmm. Will pop in and check out your costs etc in a min :)

    I like Staffordshire oatcakes too :) In fact, I like them both equal amounts - but you can't compare really cos they're both completely different things :)

    Scary supervision went alright today :):) And the good news is my thesis will only be re-examined by the (slightly less) scary internal examiner (who has a vested interest in me passing this time) rather than (slightly more scary and very pernikety) external examiner :T Also been to hospital for blood tests for thyroid thing - surprised I'm not like a sieve the amount I've had! :rotfl:

    Also been considering Slimming World thing...

    Pros for carrying on:

    * good motivation to get weighed each week
    * done successfully before
    * always chance of winning 'slimmer of the week' fruit basket :T (incredibly slim chance - only ever won once!) :rotfl:

    Cons

    * £5 a week that could be more usefully spent on more exotic fresh fruit/salad etc that gets dismissed out of food budget as too expensive
    * don't really like man very much
    * never really much of a 'group' sense in our group, if you see waht I mean
    * means an extra 1.5 hours a week that could more usefully spent on yoga class or something...

    Hmm... So. Maybe we need a few rules...

    IF I keep on putting that £5 a week aside and not just shoving it in general budget, and

    IF I spend it only on healthy, cheery things like grapes/posh salad/strawberries/yoga class etc, and

    IF I weigh myself every week on the Boots machine (70p - and far more reliable than my swingometer scales), and

    IF I check in with sister every week, who is trying to lose a similar amount of weight

    THEN I'll let myself give up :rotfl:

    Question is - can I now be bothered to go to tonight's meeting??? :rotfl:

    Just weighed myself on Boots scales, and did scary body fat thing for first time ever. Weight is high end of 'normal' - BMI normal (just), body fat? According to my ticket:

    Excellent = 22.2%
    Good = 26.8%
    Average = 30.1%
    Poor = 35.1%
    Me = 36.1%

    Hmm, some work to do then! Is it just me that finds the concept of being over one third fat disgusting??? :rotfl:

    Hmm - having said all that up there, just went to Slimming World meeting, and had a lovely time! Mind you, might have been due to the 'tasting' session we had - with cake, trifle and sangria... :rotfl:

    Also lost 2lbs in last 2 weeks, bringing total to 1 stone 3.5lbs :j All a bit more jolly.

    Going to get out in the garden and plant out my tomatoes, cabbages, rocket etc that are going a bit mad on the windowsill. *Might* have to do a little bit of weeding first to have somewhere to put them :rotfl: but it should save us a few quid later in the year if they don't get eaten by the mean old slugs... :p

    Decisions, decisions! That sounds like a *very* nice tasting session, my word! Your *ifs* sound good in the earlier post, and £5 a week is a lot of money - but if its getting you to where you need to be, then its worth it ...

    Well done with your seedlings!

    Still undecided about Slimming World, but edging towards leaving. Don't have to make the decision today though.

    *slightly* less grumpity today, sun's shining, van's in the garage (again), and I've spent a couple of hours with a lovely friend and her mischievous toddler drinking lemon cordial and putting the world to rights :beer: How lovely :T

    So, the rest of today is a re-balancing one I think. Feels like I've spent lots this week, bought some much needed foundation (£2 :rotfl:), and an entirely unnecessary nail varnish (£1.79), then today bought 5 metres of bias binding to make birthday bunting (75p), a mini milk lolly ice (35p), and the bus home from town cos it was just TOO HOT to walk uphill for an hour (50p). Hardly enormous spends... but rather too many of them I think - small things add up after all...

    So. House tidying for today, and a good hoover - always makes the place feel less like a hovel! :rotfl: then out in the garden I reckon. More knitting. A run later. I want to finish sewing a skirt I'm making - new clothes for free! :j

    And I want to be in an altogether cheerier mood when poor old mr Daffs gets back later so I don't end up shouting at him again... :o

    Oh Daffs! That does sound like a lovely day, tho - I'm rubbish at sewing, I can't even load a sewing machine - I've bought two in the past, meaning to learn, but ended up giving them away :o
