Thanks sparklymessygirl (fab name, by the way!) That quote certainly is most excellent - and, in fact, true. You're right, I do love it!
I'm actually not being very productive today either. Wandered to the shops for flour (but Mr Daffs bought it, very MSE...). Read gas meter - took all of 20 seconds. And have put some bread on to rise.
Must crack on - we're going out in about an hour and a half, in that time I need to have finished the bread, had a bath, painted the attic stairs, gone for a run, done some washing and hung it up, and about 500 other things. I suspect I won't have done though sadly!0 -
Daffs, I love the way you talk about peeping over the fence - its exactly right too ... have a good evening out tonight.....2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Yawns hello to those mooching around - KC (waves) cheery I'm still chuckling about you attacking slugs in your nightie xxxTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

<waves back>
Yes, I was chuckling tooI did manage to throw on a skirt and jacket as well, our garden is all directly onto the pavement and didn't think the neighbours could cope otherwise! :rotfl:
Just a quick one as grumpy and grumbling this evening, and much in need of doing something cheery before bed
Not a bad weekend moneywise. Feeling a bit disheartened about the £5 a day challenge - only up to £27.01, but I know I've got over £100 in second job wages arriving on 25th - just difficult doing the work now and not seeing the total increase - even though it's not long to go. Just being impatient
NSD today though :j which means £1.10 left from this week's budget - £1 to the £5 a day fund, and 10p in small change into the holiday spends pot which gets all small change at the end of the week :T
All ready for early start at work in the morning, so that's good. Have also washed the attic stairs ready for first coat of paint, and Mr Daffs has *promised* that the next stage in bathroom DIY will be done by the time I get home tomorrow... 2 weeks without a shower is rather tedious...
(mind you, can't complain, absolutely tipping down all day - could just go and stand outside with shampoo - sure neighbours wouldn't bat an eyelid after this morning's shenannigans...) :rotfl:
Back, hopefully in cheery mode, after work tomorrow...

Evening all, just quickly popping in this evening, I'm exhausted! Too late a night last night, too much grumpiness yesterday, and alarm going off at 5.30am is NOT a good combination :rotfl:
Anyway - moneywise today...
* Spent £1.73 on fruit and yogurt in shop at work - not too bad as will last more than today, and at least it wasn't chocolate...
nothing much else to report really! £10 to university fees people should have gone out today, but it hasn't. Still waiting with basted breasts (or baited breath) for co-op membership statement :rotfl: No sign of wages for an hour's work I did a couple of weeks back
Slightly less grumpy than yesterday though, thank goodness! But worn out, cycled 12 miles today, and have to do it all over again tomorrow. Wondering when travelling all that way to work and back two days in a row will start to become tedious
Just got to make lunch and sort out clothes. This is a recent development for me - and I tell you it doesn't half make a difference to the pleasant-ness of the morning! Who'd have thought it?? :rotfl:0 -
Sorting out your things sounds very very organised.
Great that the bathroom stuff is ongoing and getting there.
Don't worry about the money it will drip drip drip in - then like you say the other money will come along as well.
Grr to wages not turning up - I hope it does soon.
No shower for two weeks is a bit horrid - poor you.

Morning all,
still grumpy and grumbly here, hope it's just hormonal, this is getting rather tedious!
Getting rather wound up about money this weekJust fed up with having no leeway in the budget I think
And do you know, it's really not that bad? More as a reminder to myself, this is what happens each month:
£265 goes to Mr Daffs for rent/house contribution
£25 gets put aside for mobile phone bill (it's usually £20)
£40 gets put aside for van (used to spend this on diesel  but rarely even go anywhere in van now, as trying to save it all for MOT/insurance etc for past couple of months. This is the last month of that, and then I'll be saving over the rest of the year, so should have some more for diesel and days out again...)
Then each week I get out:
£20 for food
£10 for unnecessary spends (see - I'm not really that deprived!)
£25 for train fares to work (2 days)
£5 for emergencies (which is slowly building up - hooray! Includes dentist etc)
£5 for Slimming World.
£10 a month at the minute goes towards fees (will go up to £70 a month from July), and everything else spare goes towards paying back Mr Daffs
Now - from that, it seems I should stop feeling so bloody sorry for myself! :rotfl: This is just an in-between budget too - first wages from new job get paid at the end of this month :j so there should be a little more leeway :T But only a little bit more - like £5 a week in each of the food and unnecessary budgets - might even not get spent, but makes me feel a touch less deprived... :rotfl:
Gosh I'm feeling sorry for myself today
Thinking of giving up Slimming World too. This time round (!) I've been going since November, lost 7lbs in first 4 weeks until Christmas, then it's taken me since then to lose another 8lbs. I'm not motivated, I don't particularly like the man who's taken over our group, and I'm starting to think I'd be better off spending that £5 a week either on a yoga class or extra fruit and going it alone
I think I'm officially within 'normal' weight bracket now too, so it's not health related now... but I'd still like to drop another stone or so...
Hmm. Pondering for today I think. Might go to tonight's meeting and see how I've done in the last 2 weeks, and then decide :rotfl:
Best get on - lots to do today, and got horrid PhD supervision this afternoon too - hope supervisor is nice, or he might get his head bitten off...1 -
Ok heres a hug
First off - I think possibly the slimming world decision is a good idea as you say to spend an additional 1/4 of your food budget on slimming class which you are not enjoying seems a bit like you need a change. But like you say why not go along and see for a final time if you want to keep going or give it up. If you're in the normal weight bracket anyway.,........
Secondly you're doing brilliantly - so you need to give yourself a break.
Ergh to supervisors. Goodluck
Train fares - can you do a sneaky book it online earlier routine and lower the cost of those? I.e like I do with OH's plane fares - I book them alot in advance and get the cheaper ticket even though he comes regularily? Just a thought - I read somewhere that booking them earlier makes them cheaper - but I haven't been on a train for ages and you probably do this already!!Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Absolutely with online booking for the train - you know you're going to be travelling, so why not?
And as to Slimming World - Daffs, if you don't like the bloke running the class, then leave - there's often a psychological thing going on in that situation - you won't lose weight so you don't give him the satisfaction of being a success, but its actually self sabotage - he gets the money! Advice is free, oops, but I'd find another way.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Thanks you two
I've investigated online train fares (I usually buy them online) but this trip is 7am and 5.30pm, so peak time. £12 each trip is the minimum fare with my student railcard (would normally be £16.90!). Now I'm settling into a routine though, I will indeed investigate whether single tickets for specific trains are best - didn't want to do that at first in case I missed them!
Will go to Slimming World tonight and see how I feelBloke has only been there 3 weeks, and I've missed one of them - so maybe should give him a bit more of a chance! Also, t does work, I've done it before - but I need to actually STICK TO THE DIET (obviously!)
Slightly cheered up after a walk in the sunshine with Mr DaffsAnd Orkney oatcakes for lunch - hooray! Wish I was up there with you and your orchids fay... .
<toddles off to check train fares and ponder what else to do with slimming world money>0
