well done cheery for having the savings to be able to move them around to pay for things it's not a feat which should be underestimated, i think many folk got themselves into our position because they didn't save for the annual things in life.
A few months ago i had to transfer all but £7 of my savings back, (in excess of £2k) and it hurt but they were to enable me to repay a loan early and that's what they were saved for specifically.
Well done for clearing so much debt in France KC0 -
Ouch, sounds painful Karmacat... But sounds like there's good work being done also!
Just spent nearly AN HOUR on the phone to van insurance people :eek: Our previous insurers, they'd already sent us a written quote, but because my part time job had changed from 'care assistant' to 'researcher', and because it said we smoked, when we didn't, we had to go through the entire bloody list of details, including trying to sell me windscreen cover and legal something-or-other. Pah.
Then nobody would quote because I'm still registered as a full time student - even though the quote we had through the post had me down as a full time student...
So now I'm NOT a student, because even though I'm technically registered as one, I'm never there, have no classes, am only finishing off writing up PhD, and on the understanding that if I crash on the way to my (non-existent) studenty activities at the university (which is 10 minutes WALK away), I won't be covered. Fine. :rotfl:
Gosh, another cup of tea needed I think! At least I managed to check emails, do a couple of surveys, read the online newspaper, and search for a couple of journal articles while I was on the phone :rotfl:
Boring sometimes this moneysaving malarkey, isn't it?? :rotfl:0 -

Thank you!Cheery_Daff wrote: »Ouch, sounds painful Karmacat... But sounds like there's good work being done also!
There is! That £1k happens once or one and a half times a year, unfortunately, its why I'm so skint  I researched the purchase badly/not at all, but to get out of it would cost much more, whereas if I stay in, at least I'll have an asset to sell in my old age
That insurance thing sounds insane, Cheery! They don't listen to themselves sometimes, do they .....2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Thanks LT - I must confess that I don't usually have enough saved up for the annual things, I usually just wing it... but this time I knew I was leaving my job, and knew I'd have about 6 weeks between wages, and that my last lot of wages wouldn't be enough to last that long, and that van insurance, tax, MOT, breakdown were all due around those 6 weeks  So planning ahead (only for about 3 months, lol!) has kind of paid off :j
And the only reason I have a holiday fund is cos we were meant to be going to Scotland at Christmas, so I'd put aside some second job income for that, then we couldn't go cos of all the snowSo I've been absolutely determined not to spend it on anything other than a replacement holiday in Scotland, and CERTAINLY not on covering costs between jobs - which is why it was so galling to have to transfer some of it, but at least I WILL transfer it back! :A

Hi lucielle
Lovely to see you! Of course it's ok to subscribe - can't promise I'll ever say anything worth reading mind you! :rotfl:
Moneywise today...
* listed CDs on music magpie for the first time - my entire CD collection is apparently worth £18.14! :T just have to find most of the actual cds now - may only end up getting a fiver :rotfl:
* and my mum just informed me she's got £2.77 share of the Co-op's profits, so mine should be in soon! Last year I think I got £1.84 (?) - so I'm all excited about adding this year's total to my £5 a day money :money:
* saved £6 (for the year) on van insurance quote (total of £33 saved from last year!)
* got reduced gas bill - Over £200 less than their estimate :eek:
* did a couple of surveys (30p I think)
Just come back from a run (free exercise, and much needed!) and about to jump in a nice hot bath :j (that's me jumping in, you see...). Had a totally unproductive day today, like the most productive thing I did was read the gas meter - that type of day :rotfl: Had a complete meltdown (tears and everything) earlier when mr daffs suggested watching a film this evening - couldn't bear the thought of a completely unproductive evening too. Do I perhaps detect a smidgin of hormonal silliness creeping in there??? :rotfl:0 -
Uh oh to the hormonal blethers - I've had an unproductive day too, Daffs, I think we need them sometimes. Have a nice bath, that'll help!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Hello
I have to confess I lost you and now I've found you againphew!! You were on my list to track down today. Well done on all the money stuff - I normally wing it as well - now I juggle a bit and wing it a bit - one day maybe I'll get organised!!
The commute with the train sounds great if a bit long - you do sound organised and to be up and awake and out at that time of day is amazing. Are you knitting just for you or are you knitting for selling/ebay etc - either way it means you add 2 solid hours to your work each day - which is very productive and tres green. I'm afraid I have to drive - I keep it to a minimum when I can - but theres not much of an alternative here - there is a bus once a day at 10.15 to the wrong local town!
I admire folks who can be around their ex's and its OK - mine won't come near me (ex daddy person) and the other ex (penguin chops) did come around last week for a visit as he's back in the country and here to pick up his things - it was OK - but things were a bit strained. I'm too emotional for my own good I think. As to my ex husband - well he can't even be on the same land mass as me - silly man. I'm glad you can all be so great with each other - I wish it were different for us lot - but maybe one day.
Glad the holiday fund is cocooned and good for you for decent quotes/underbudget gas and being able to negotiate with insurers (who sound like they are very silly).
All your running/cycling makes me feel quite dizzy!
Time for a cuppa I think
I've hit the subscribe button properly this time so I can't lose you again
(()) for the hormones - I hate them!
Waves to other faces over fences. This feels a bit like farmville on FB - lots of lovely neighbours about to say hello to!! xxTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:

I've subscribed to my own diary too Fay - couldn't find myself even with the search button after the first day and had to resort to trailing through all the pages :rotfl:
Funnily enough, spent all day yesterday with ex-ex-mr-daffsHad a lovely day out here, and an evening in the pub. I went home for lunch, someone else bought me a soda water in the pub, and in total I spent:
fairy cake from help the aged - 50p
mini milk lolly ice - 30p
Oh, forgot about the cake and tea at the WI in the morning - £3.90 for 2.5 of us, so not too bad :rotfl: Must try less cakes though, spending money on cakes AND Slimming World isn't good MSE practice I don't think! :rotfl:
Slow day here today, recovery from last night's shenannigans, pottering I didn't do yesterday, bit of gardening (already had to run into front garden in my nightie to rescue lettuce from two HUGE and very cheeky slugs who just wouldn't respond to my banging on the window! :rotfl:), then afternoon tea for a friend's birthday - must buy flour to make bread or cakes or something tasty to take for him...
Have a good day all! Off to peek over a few fences - reminds me of my grandma standing nattering to the neighbours over the fence :j0 -
Hello - I'm not one for diaries but loved your title
You will like my current favourite quote (You will, I tell you! lol!)
"There is no trouble so great or grave that cannot be much diminished by a nice cup of tea."
Bernard-Paul Heroux
Have a lovely day - I am just pottering today - can't imagine being very productive although washing is on the line and to my mind if I have achieved that and nothing else then I have done well :T
