Hmm - how mysterious! Just had an email saying I'm included in the July graduation :j :j and that

'Your award was conferred at an inabsentia ceremony yesterday.'

What on earth does that mean?? Does that mean that someone signed the paperwork in an office without all the pomp and circumstance?? How strange!

I think it means that you are officially Dr Daff as of yesterday. And you get to dress up in July. Congrats!

In absentia ceremony - basically what you said, I think it's normally if you've just missed a deadline for a graduation ceremony, so you're not waiting for months and months for your certificate.
