Right then - a victory (of sorts)
Still no sign of PhD confirmation letter  7 weeks after I submitted, 4 weeks after the external sent back the paperwork (although why that took him 3 weeks is anyone's guess), 4 weeks after paperwork submitted the first time, and 2 weeks after the paperwork was submitted the second time...
Just rang AGAIN (poor man must be sick of me :rotfl:) - apparently they have actually received the paperwork now :rotfl: but not bothered to process it yet (oops, sorry, do I sound cross?). Nice man said he'd do it for me this afternoon :j :j
Asked about graduation - I REALLY don't want to have to wait until January to graduate! I thought the cut off was next Friday - apparently it's today! So Nice Man is emailing the graduation team to make sure I get on the list :T Should receive my confirmation letter early next week - although I'm not holding my breath :rotfl:
A tiny ray of sunshine in a(nother) grumpy and miserable day
Oh! And money related... apparently the university/bus company are doing a joint ticket where you get 20 single tickets for £20 with no expiry date! :j :j Usually £1.50 (or £2 if you get the Mean Bus, which I try not to - they're mean :rotfl:). So that potentially means my max bus budget can go down to £2 for each working day, rather than £3 (I budget 50p for bus to town, £2 for bus to university just in case, 50p for bus home in the evening) - which means £6 a week instead of £9, which means £30 a week instead of £45! :j :jAnd I mostly only go in two days a week (but budget for 3) - meaning in reality I'll only spend £20 a week :T :T (and sometimes not even that - mostly I walk to the station in the morning, meaning I'll spend £15 :T)
And, of course, the summer's coming, so I'll start taking the foldy bike, so I'll only need the 50p evening bus fare (but sill budget for the others, just in case), meaning probably only £5 a month
Looks like I might just make that ludicrous target after all :rotfl:0 -
your bus journey calculations are very technical!, too technical for me today for some reason lol
good luck with your savings totals, i'm a big fan of targets, it's the only thing that keeps me going on this journey.0 -
Don't quite know why I went into that much detail :rotfl: Probably cos there's nobody else here to talk to and I couldn't help myself
Just had an email from the graduation team - apparently the cut off was yesterday  So now I have to wait until they've counted everyone who DID get their stuff in on time, and see if there's room..0 -
Oh Cheery, after all the happiness, it comes down to the admin bollixing you up again about the PhD
I did love your post about the bus fares
and I like the way you've totalled up all the pots that you're saving to - that really shows the effect that job has had.

Thanks KC
I really want to make sure this job makes a significant positive contribution to my life (as well as the experience and the fun I'm generally having, and the difference it's making to the world... or something...). I know full well how it's all too easy to become unfocused, and before you know it thousands have just slipped through your fingers (it's happened before...
). Wanted to make sure it doesn't happen this time, and to give myself options in the future.
I'm generally going to try and ignore the PhD admin nonsense (although I did send a polite email to the graduation people pointing out that it would have been useful to have the info on their website as I could have chased the other people sooner, and how I was really disappointed that I might not be able to graduate this year...). Once I stop feeling too glum I'll be fine with it, I'm sure :j :j0 -
Positive vibes for graduation this year.

I too find others' inefficiency highly frustrating! On a more positive note congrats on the awesome saving plan, is a great goal and achievable despite its epicness (I don't care that that isn't a word; I like it!)
Good luck!

Epicness is a fabulous word VL, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! :T :T
Thanks beanielou0 -

Nice pottering day here :j WI, charity shops, walked into town to buy new (cheap, purple!) phone to replace my ancient one that's on the blink. Also bought some new fancy knickersGot some photo printing paper in the charity shop for a little experiment I'm trying out tonight.
Worn out now! :rotfl: But need to get changed and out into the garden - that giant hole's not going to dig itself!0
