  • Thanks Daffy, essay duly submitted :D:T Now putting a plan in place to get on with the next one - looking forward to hearing about your party!

Re. wooden printers blocks I liked the idea that you said about putting them all over 1 wall, i also liked how they looked in a bowl - i clearly just like them :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: My idea for them would be to put up a phrase with them like "...and they lived happily ever after" - when i looked at the picture of them i wasn't sure if they were readable straightforwards or if they were like mirror writing? If they are like mirror writing i'd put the phrase up in the hall or on the stairs and have a mirror on the wall opposite to reflect the saying.

Beanie - hope you had a good party too

Greenval - many thanks for the info. about knitting blankets for animal shelter :T

    Hi Cheery
I crochet blankets for my local Animal Rescue Centre. Maybe there is one near you, they tend not to mind multicoloured blankets that are made up of all sorts of spare wool.
    Thats a lovely idea.
My outfit is ready, and I've just realised we've run out of loo roll, so a quick dash to the shop is in order
    Yikes
Also had 2 phone calls from people saying they can't come - I HATE this part of the evening! I do understand that things happen at the last minute, I never actually expect anyone to turn up until they do (I have lots of unrealiable musician type friends :rotfl:) but somehow it doesn't make me feel very good when people ring and say 'I can't come to your post-phd celebratory party because I'm tired because I've had a really hectic day grouting the bathroom...'
Oh Cheery:grouphug:I hope it went fantastically well :j

Ah well - less people = more champagne for the rest of us :D

They are like mirror writing, if they're what I think they are, and what an absolutely *brilliant* idea :T I love that.

Ooh DedicatedDFW, what a lovely idea :T :T I love it too :T :T Yes, they are like mirror writing :D I'll see what I can do... :j :j

    Gosh I;m tired :rotfl: :rotfl:

Absolutely gorgeously fabulous evening :j :j Lots of people turned up, pretty much everyone in fancy dress! :j :j :j Both my supervisors came, which was lovely, and a couple of people I'd never met before - love it when that happens :j :j Bed at 3.30 <yawn>

Then up again at 8.15 to dig around in the cellar for bike pump and handlebar bag, pump up tyres, and get into town for women's bike ride :T :T

Goodness knows how I managed it, but I'm jolly glad I did, I had the most excellent time :D:D:D Lovely day. Got quite cold and wet (I'd forgotten gloves, and for some reason thought it was appropriate to wear knee length trousers :rotfl: must have still been drunk :rotfl:)

Then went to a friend's for lunch. Just got home, worn out, freezing, and very happy indeed (and bloody exhausted :rotfl:)

    :D

  • Morning! The party sounds fantastic - and wow to getting up at 8.15 for a bike ride!

Love the sound of all the bits and pieces in your house :D and that's a lovely idea with the printing blocks..

You've just reminded me I need to renew the flute music I borrowed from the library and erm, haven't really looked at yet :o

    Have a good Monday :)

Didn't realise you were a closet fluting type squizz! (or maybe you're not in the closet at all, I just didn't know about it :rotfl:)

long day here - I SO did not get enough sleep last night :o Oh dear. Work felt rather difficult :rotfl:

Anyway, pay day today :D So just been doing some internet banking :j :j Gosh I love internet banking :rotfl: :rotfl: So I've now got:

    £183 in the emergency fund
£70 in the car maintenance (plus tax, insurance etc) fund
    £78 in the holiday fund
    £547 in the turning-the-house-into-a-palace fund :j :j

    All very exciting.

Gone a little mad this month with the prospect of being able to just buy whatever - haven't gone entirely overboard, but have remarkably easily slipped into the occasional cuppa on the way to work  Need to slip right back out of that one before it becomes a habit - that is NOT where I want my hard earned cash going! So, sticking to the budget is in order this month! :T

Must go to sleep, sooooo tired and can't afford another unproductive day tomorrow! xx

Glad the party was fun - you deserved it! :)

I also really love the idea of the printing blocks and the mirror - do it, do it! :j

As for the music, sounds like the typical classical/folkie scenario in which one can read music, but can't do anything without it, and the other can't read it, doesn't need it and would just look around bewildered if put in an orchestra and told to bow at the same time as his colleagues! ;)

Its okay to give yourself a month of spendy spendy spendy, when its basically coffees and teas and that order of money - for one thing, you prove to yourself how easily your money really does disappear - glad you've seen it straight away, and are pulling back. When I was travelling up to London and back regularly on the train, I bought a little vacuum flask from Asda for £1.96 - it held one large cup of tea, and it was one of the best purchases I've ever made - it paid for itself after I'd used it twice :) might be an idea for you - it doesn't stay hot for 5 hours, but one or two hours, and its fine.

I'm fairly closeted! :rotfl: I did a diploma in Music at college but then abandoned it and didn't really play for years, but I have had a little tootle recently - bit rusty (me not the flute) but not as bad as I expected. I'm another one who struggles without sheet music and couldn't join in with folky friends!

Banking looks good, especially the palace fund.. istockphoto_10228556-fairytale-palace-with-princess-fairy-and-ballerina-character-scene.jpg
(I guess this is one of your fancy dress parties :rotfl:)
