Absolutely right about getting so much done working from home. Part of it is lack of distractions from phonesetc, but I think part is also that when you're working at home you tend to be focussed on something specific that you intend doing, rather than the general tasks of the day which if you were in the office would get in the way.

I work from home permanantly and have to agree about getting lots done. I do travel a lot though as I have to cover a very big region. Sometimes though when I have spent a full week or two working from home without going out to meetings I start to get really fed up. Then I go to the head office and realise how much more work I get done at home.
I also think it is a kind of guilt thing. I hate to think that anybody may think that i am skiving. One thing I do try to do is stick to office hours and not let work spill over into my evening which did start happening in the early days.

Well, all my in-office things that get in the way seemed to get in the way here too :D Largely because the things that get in the way are :coffee: and my own inability to concentrate, and they just seem to be with me all the time sadly! :rotfl:

However, I've finished work for the day, had something to eat, and done the washing up. Mr Daffs has gone out, and friend is arriving about 8-8.30 ish. So I've got two hours. There's 2 things I NEED to get done tonight - some PhD, and finishing up my Christmas presents for family visit tomorrow night.

So, I *think* the plan is...

    * sit down with PhD from now until 7.30. Get proper decent draft of conclusions done, lots of copying and pasting from old one, and free-thinking bullet points. NO trying to write proper sentences tonight, I've been doing that all day for work and my head is fried! :o But I've got the whole of Sunday to work on it, and it'll be much easier if I've got a decent starting point to work from :T

    * at 7.30, wellies on and pop out to the shop :D A nice walk after sitting on my backside will be good :j :j And I need to get some local beer (for presents), and LOTS of chocolate :rotfl:

    * at 8pm (ish) friend will arrive, and he can help me sort out my presents :rotfl: (isn't that what friends are for, making themselves useful?? :rotfl:) This afternoon I have abandoned the idea of knitted mug cosies (I've only done 3 out of 7, and they're not finished properly yet), so am going to paint the mugs instead :j :j Very simple, just dots, or perhaps names :D Already got paint etc :D

    * once that's in the oven, we melt all the chocolate, then pour into ice cube trays/silicone sweet things with sticks in to make hot chocolate swirly stick things :j :j :j (literally just chocolate on a stick, that you stir into hot milk). Then a couple of those in each mug, a ribbon round the top, and we're laughing! :j :j

Kitchen and living room are in a complete tip, as Mr Daffs is mid-ongoing-palace-activities, which seem to involve rearranging the entire kitchen and living room... But we've got seats and work surface/sink in the kitchen, and the living room is not far off being back to normal (can get on the sofas at least! :T) so we're all set :T

Tomorrow is a busy one too - going to start work at 7am  and work through til 3 - lots of work to do, then pack up the car and trundle off to mother's for auntie's 50th birthday party. Stay at mother's, and do family Christmas-present-delivering on Saturday, then back here for some more PhDing.

    <yawn>

Feel like I'm not popping in much at the minute, certainly not to say anything meaningful! :rotfl: But everything's ticking along fine, just NEED to get this phd out of the way, and then February will be when I start focusing properly on 2011 :j :j
  • Glad the palace kitchen is underway - did having a kitchen space here help? Xx

I think all of us have times when we're not on here quite as much as usual - I had a complete break in August/September last year, and in summer the year before that too. Have a lovely time visiting family - you're off to your mum's!!!! Brill :)

Had a lovely time :D Visited all required fmily members :D Got some John Lewis vouchers and £10 (to go towards underwear project :rotfl:) and sister crocheted me a shawl, and auntie made my a patchwork quilt! :j :j :j Very exciting :D Lovely to see everyone, and lots of playing with small nephews, very cheery.

Tiring though, and tiring drive home, am whacked

(oh, and I shut my keys in the car at 1am last night, and had to get the RAC to get them back out again, but we won't talk about that cos it's too embarrassing :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:)

i'm always terrified i'll lock my keys in my car. My sister did this once in Yorkshire and the spare set were at home in Suffolk! They were only just able to get the doors unlocked for her.

We don't have a spare set LT  (must sort that out soon!) Locked keys in old van several times, but the back window just slid open so pretty easy to retrieve them again :rotfl: Must remember this is a *proper* car not a shoddy old falling-apart van! (which have their advantages, it seems!) :rotfl:

I'm so relieved that I can't do that with mine - I only ever lock the doors using the remote - have done from new, in fact I don't even know if you *can* do it any other way, and won't be trying!

I'd forgotten about the Great Underwear Project Daffs - how's it going? I saw a pair of knickers in Primark earlier on that FF would love - they had cows all over them! :D You've inspired me to sort out some of my nastier most elderly undies actually - I've already started getting rid of the grottier knickers, but Bras will have to wait until I can get some good replacements in the sales!

Glad you had a lovely couple of days with your family too.
