Oh how lovely - I did environmental management and sustainable development for a degree a couple years ago, did a msc in plant taxonomy and biodiversity (plants really, lots of plants) - and now doing a post grad (long story started out as a phd) in the potential of an src crop in the frozen north for a biomass crop.

You're one sounds interesting and I'm sorry to say very useful, agriculture can't keep on going the way it was - these days there's so much more to consider!

:) thank you for replying! Can we call him Mr Lotti? I've decided to name my OH mr stripes...........much nicer!

    What's a src crop?

  • 5 nights out for £5! Jeez. Well done! (I feel thoroughly ashamed of spending so much on socialising lately...)

And hee hee, I think Mr Lotti might just stick! Bless him.

That sounds like a really interesting post grad! I'll admit I had to look up what an src crop is - short rotation coppice? Is that right? And yeah, agriculture is rather stuck at the moment! A fragile ecosystem and an ever-increasing population don't mix very well...

Still, got to drag myself back to this assignment. I would rather be making flapjacks... or very smart-sounding florentines! Mmmm yum yum. :p

your florentines sound very yummy Cheery, sounds like you've got a hectic social calendar as well.
OH i have stopped in tonight (as usual) and have 'enjoyed' chopping a huge box of mushrooms into bags to freeze. Oh the life we lead as MSE'rs. I think you have the right mix Cheery but that could be because you're debt free, or just more interesting than OH and myself

I never thought of chopping and freezing mushrooms! :T :T My life isn't that exciting, I've just developed the art of talking about it as if it is :rotfl: I think it helps that Mr Daffs is a musician, and neither of us work full time, so I often find myself in slightly unusual situations :D
I was looking at the florentine recipe in my Good Housekeeping recipe book earlier on Daffs - but settled on coconut & cherry cookies in the end instead. They're very yummy! We're looking for ideas for biscuity things to make to give away as little presents at christmas - may well try the florentines as part of that! :D

I gave away florentines last year, people loved them! I've overcooked this batch, as usual :D Much better when they're taken out of the oven before you think they should come out - stay softer that way. I made some last year that were much larger, and kind of cookie style - they went down well :D

Well don't feel dumb! We all know lots of things about different things, that's the joy of being here :T I'm sure there's plenty of things you know all about that the rest of us would be completely baffled by... :rotfl:

Well, we've invited people round for a 'festive clothes and clutter swap' starting at 2pm today, until the last person falls asleep :rotfl: :j :j Lots of people are away, but there should be a few coming. A couple of them *will* be here at 2pm on the dot (and I don't have many friends like that!). I tidied the house yesterday, but there seems to quite a lot of things that need doing again

Not sure quite how I seem to still be in bed... :rotfl: :rotfl: (walked hom at 3am, absolutely gorgeously clear sky, heavy frost, everywhere sparkling like a Christmas card). Best get up and crack on :j

Ooh I love this talk of academia! I have an MSc in Environmental Water Management, hoping to get into wetland management at some point so I can play with water levels and waders...love the birdies! Currently languishing in an engineering consultancy .

Not very motivated today but I got tons done yesterday so might just make a cup of :coffee: instead to warm up! :j

Although I do quite fancy cake making...

Oh don't feel dumb - thats why we have supervisors - they assure us how dumb we actually are and shouldn't actually be allowed to talk to other humans.

Just insert the we're all different thingmy - I've dodged getting a job for years - only reason I've done any post grad stuff (that and a lack of opportunity for any jobs where I live.) I can't work where i live - so I had to find a way to make money (paid study) has helped me live with the kids on my own over the years.

    :D

I've alot of book time and not alot of work experience - utterly unemployable (if there were any jobs for me to have anyway!):rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Z - short rotation coppice (src) oh lottie got there first - good luck with the writing - I'm back to mine NOW!

VL - oh goody water management - lot of wet birdies up here :)

Cheery - hello - I've decorated the piano - dunno why I'm telling you that - I just hope you like it! (not really in tune though, but looks pretty)
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
    minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:

I've missed out on a lot of fun here in the last 24 hours! Cheery, you *do* sound like you have a fantastic social time, you're always out watching Mr Daffs, or at the WI, or at a friend's for tea - tho today sounds a bit special, a little party. Now that I'm well again, I'm going to start out again making local links, which is what I moved here to do - tho I suppose it will have to be after Christmas now.

Hope the endless party is going well :)
